Job description

About Pinterest:

Millions of people across the world come to Pinterest to find new ideas every day. It’s where they get inspiration, dream about new possibilities and plan for what matters most. Our mission is to help those people find their inspiration and create a life they love. In your role, you’ll be challenged to take on work that upholds this mission and pushes Pinterest forward. You’ll grow as a person and leader in your field, all the while helping Pinners make their lives better in the positive corner of the internet.

Creating a life you love also means finding a career that celebrates the unique perspectives and experiences that you bring. As you read through the expectations of the position, consider how your skills and experiences may complement the responsibilities of the role. We encourage you to think through your relevant and transferable skills from prior experiences.

Our new progressive work model is called PinFlex, a term that’s uniquely Pinterest to describe our flexible approach to living and working. Visit our PinFlex landing page to learn more.

We’re looking for a strong, resilient operational manager to lead the team responsible for enforcing the policies and regulations working on sensitive workflows focused on child safety. This role will be part of our growing Trust & Safety Enforcement Operations organization and will lead the team interacting directly with Pinners and governing agencies (eg: NCMEC). You’ll leverage critical thinking and insights to improve and scale our operational processes and policies while working closely within operations and with cross-functional partners to develop and support organizational goals and projects. In addition, you will gain familiarity with our escalation procedures, test and improve our tools and best practices, provide relevant context and feedback to teams building new features, and build relationships with the other teams who help keep Pinterest safe.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage the Minor Safety Ops team, developing and maintaining a robust compliance program that ensures the company adheres to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards while driving scalable outcomes for operational teams.
  • Lead the team reviewing potential child sexual abuse material and actioning accordingly per law and Pinterest’s Community Guidelines
  • Play a key role in advocating for your team's needs, particularly as they relate to our company's focus on employee health and well-being.
  • Investigate potential bad actors and identify new trends in unsafe behavior/content related to the sexualization of minors
  • Own resolution of high priority escalations through multiple channels (may include 24/7 on-call paging)
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement policies and procedures, conduct risk assessments, and provide guidance to employees on child safety matters.
  • Work closely with Pinterest’s legal and engineering teams to create long-term strategies and short-term solutions for operational processes, tools, and policy gaps.
  • Facilitate and enable a high performance team culture. Coach direct reports in navigating ambiguity, finding solutions and accomplishing goals despite incomplete information.
  • Embrace ambiguity and change and drive a track record of success for the team.
  • Resolve escalations and focus on remediations to operational processes, procedures, and policy gaps.

 What we’re looking for:

  • 3+ years of direct people management experience
  • 5+ years previous experience in Intellectual Property, Legal, Regulatory or Compliance operations or policy
  • Critical thinker, capable of managing ambiguity leveraging data-driven decision frameworks to enable operational strategy and deliverables
  • Previous experience working in sensitive content review and/or moderation or closely related community operations
  • Exceptional communicator across functions at all levels of the company.
  • Track record of launching operational processes and enabling scale
  • Takes ownership and accountability of Pinners’ experience, process improvement and issue resolution
  • Our PinFlex future of work philosophy requires this role to visit a Pinterest office for collaboration approximately 1x per quarter. For employees not located within a commutable distance from this in-office touchpoint, Pinterest will cover T&E. Learn more about PinFlex here.
