Job description

 

We are seeking an Assistant Director of Contracts who will support the Associate Vice Provost and Associate Directors in the training, direction and management of a team of grants and/or contracts associates. They will have signature authority for specific documents and manage the negotiation of award terms. They also provide guidance to faculty and staff on sponsored projects and serve as the main contact for negotiations with sponsors. The role includes supervision, training, compliance oversight, and liaising with various university offices.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate terms for awards and agreements.
  • Ensure agreements comply with university policies.
  • Serve as a point of contact for negotiations with domestic and international sponsors.
  • Assist with the submission of proposals and address problems as they arise.
  • Provide expert advice to faculty and staff regarding sponsored projects.
  • Supervise 3-5 direct reports.
  • Support Associate Directors in providing on-going training and ensuring processes are effective.
  • Provide leadership to support faculty in their pursuit of sponsored projects.
  • Act as the office liaison for compliance with university regulations.
  • Coordinate with information technology, central technology transfer, and post-award budget offices.
  • Assist in identifying and addressing compliance issues, including Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR).
  • Serve in the capacity of the Associate Director or Associate Vice Provost when needed.
  • Participate in long-range projects and serve on University or School committees.
  • Help implement new regulatory changes through policies and procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with Microsoft Office, web-based systems, and office equipment such as printers and scanners.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree in a related discipline.
  • Six years of demonstrated experience in sponsored project activities.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Must have strong leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Intellectual property management and technology transfer experience preferred.
  • Experience with student placement agreements preferred.
  • Experience negotiating corporate contracts preferred.
  • Contracts or grants administration experience, including working knowledge of the Uniform Guidance and the Federal Acquisition Regulations preferred.\
  • Understanding of compliance issues related to sponsored research preferred.
  • Experience with SAP and Fibi software a plus.
  • Experience in a university or research administration setting preferred.
  • Must have familiarity with compliance issues related to sponsored research.
  • Must have ability to conceptualize solutions and improve processes for the administration of sponsored projects.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have ability to handle ambiguity and exercise good judgment.
  • Must have capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
  • Must have experience in problem-solving and consensus-building in complex tasks.
  • Must have knowledge of the Uniform Guidance and Federal Acquisition Regulations.
