Configuration Manager

Fairwinds Technologies is looking for an experienced Configuration Manager (CM) to maintain configuration management of systems defined by the program and track baseline changes, in addition to implementing best practices for capabilities to design, develop, implement, oversee, and operate a configuration management program across the system lifecycle.

This position is contingent upon contract award. 

Qualifications

  • ACTIVE Secret Security Clearance
  • 10+ years’ experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience in Information Technology Management, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or Computer Science or Business Administration.
  • Knowledge of DoD configuration management concepts and basic practices such as configuration identification, configuration status accounting, configuration verification and audit, configuration change management, data management, and configuration planning and management.
  • Experienced in interpreting a Contract, and SOW and writing flow down CM requirements in Configuration Management and Operations. 
  • Capable of creating, maintaining and analyzing product structure, correcting errors. 
  • Software release management, version control processes and procedures in a continuous integration / continuous development environment.
  • Willingness to adapt and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to meet long-lead and/or tight deliverable deadlines.
  • Knowledge of SATCOM system equipment maintenance procedures, policies, and requirements.
  • Ability to remain flexible in the face of changing customer and organizational priorities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities 

  • Manages the configuration of hardware and software assets by establishing and maintaining a configuration management database (CMDB) or similar system. This involves documenting details such as version numbers, dependencies, and relationships between components.
  • Maintaining an inventory of hardware and software assets with details about operating system versions, patch status, installed applications, and other relevant information
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of technology configurations, including diagrams, procedures, and records of changes made to configurations over time.
  • Implement and enforce change control processes to track and manage changes to technology configurations ensuring that changes are properly documented, tested, and approved.
  • Maintain program software configuration management processes including collection or distribution of code documentation, problem report and change request processing, software build documents, and delivery of software products/releases to operational environments/customers
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensuring that technology configurations adhere to industry standards, best practices, and security requirements. This includes monitoring for compliance with regulatory requirements if applicable. 
  • Support the development and implementation of new technologies and processes, while providing training and guidance to project teams on configuration management best practices
  • Work with Program Manager to identify potential risks associated with technology configurations and take measures to mitigate them. This includes assessing the impact of configuration changes and planning for risk recovery.
  • Development of configuration management planning documentation, to include the establishment and coordination of Configuration/Change Control Boards (CCBs) for program hardware and software.
  • Support the Program Manager with ensuring compliance with contract requirements associated with deliverables and configuration management standards.
  • Excellent written and organization skills.
  • Adheres to company policies, procedures, and practices. 
  • Close attention to detail and the ability to plan ahead.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Travel may be required.

 

Additional Experience Desired

  • Knowledge of Military Satellite Communication methodology and practices.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.
