Fraud Prevention Specialist

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks a Fraud Prevention Specialist in the Office of Compliance and Fraud Prevention. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the specialist is responsible for reviewing various fraud prevention reports, flagging suspicious student records, and taking all necessary steps to mitigate fraud and information security risk. The specialist will be responsible for responding to students and other individuals’ correspondence related to identity verification.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Review system generated reports and take appropriate action.
Contact students by phone, mail, and email to verify information and resolve account matters.
Prepare and maintain appropriate documentation of system generated reports and communicate with internal stakeholders as appropriate.
Ensure documentation related to investigations is maintained in the student information system.
Escalate issues to management as appropriate for advanced investigation and analysis.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate’s degree in a related field (e.g. criminal justice, risk management, accounting)
At least one year experience in fraud investigation, forensic accounting, or auditing
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively and be able to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
