Job description

We are in search of a Director – Healthcare Policy, who will serve as a senior policy analyst for institutional investor clients, largely hedge funds.  The position is responsible for developing high-quality investment ideas based on rigorous policy analysis and for consistently covering policy developments across the healthcare sector for our capital markets clients.  The ideal candidate will have exceptional analytical and communication skills, and a demonstrated interest in healthcare investing and healthcare policy.  A successful candidate will be a highly qualified professional with at least 12 years of experience in policy research for institutional investors, healthcare equity research, investment banking, buy-side investing or a related field.   

Title may be adjusted based on experience. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Analyzing the risks and opportunities presented to publicly traded securities by public policy (including but not limited to regulation, legislation, government enforcement, and litigation) 
  • Developing market-leading coverage across the healthcare sector - including payors (Medicare Advantage, ACA, Medicaid), pharma, providers (hospitals, post-acute), and medical devices 
  • Authoring high-quality research reports and presentations for Capstone’s capital markets clients (hedge funds, mutual funds and private credit investors)  
  • Responding to questions from capital markets clients in a thoughtful and timely manner 
  • Hosting high-quality client conference calls and in-person events, including in-person marketing trips 

Capstone is a leading Washington, DC-based policy analysis and regulatory due diligence firm, which advises institutional investors – hedge funds, private equity firms, and mutual funds – and companies on how public policy impacts investments, companies and business decisions.  Our firm balances sophisticated policy and investment analysis in the healthcare, financial services, energy, TMT, and national security/defense sectors, and advises some of the largest and most sophisticated institutional investors and companies in the U.S. and Europe.   

Qualifications 

Successful candidates will possess the following attributes: 

  • Demonstrated expertise within the healthcare sector, including payors (Medicare Advantage, ACA, Medicaid), pharma, providers (hospitals, post-acute), and medical devices 
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to clients – in-person, remotely and in writing through value-additive research reports 
  • Strong client servicing and interpersonal skills 
  • The ability to develop and discern high-quality, value-oriented investment ideas  
  • Ability to self-motivate, work independently, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment 
  • Passion for combining government policy with investing 

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Four-year bachelor’s degree required 
  • Graduate degree or CFA preferred 
  • At least 12 years of experience in policy research for institutional investors, healthcare equity research, investment banking, buy-side investing or a related field 
  • High academic achievement  
  • Strong MS Excel skills  
  • Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident 

 

Capstone offers a competitive benefits package, including health, vision, dental insurance, paid vacation, travel stipend and 401(k). The expected compensation for this role will be $190,000+ base salary plus bonus, commensurate with experience.

This position is based in our Washington, DC office. Capstone is in-person Monday thru Thursday with flexible work from home Fridays.
