Description

Are you passionate about music education and looking to inspire the next generation of musicians? We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Adjunct Double Reed Instructor (Oboe and Bassoon) to join our team for the 2024-25 academic year. This role is ideal for someone committed to fostering growth in undergraduate music students and has a deep love for teaching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide applied lessons in oboe and bassoon to undergraduate students.
  • Lead a weekly studio class, focusing on technical and performance skills.
  • Teach reed making techniques and participate in chamber ensembles as needed.
  • In the Spring semester, teach the double reed section of a Woodwind Methods class.
  • Potential to take on additional courses, depending on experience and the needs of the department.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's Degree in Music with a focus on Oboe or Bassoon.
  • Proven experience teaching both oboe and bassoon students.
  • Expertise in teaching reed making for oboe and bassoon.
  • Familiarity with teaching Woodwind Methods.

Preferred

  • Doctorate or ABD in Music (with doctorate conferred by the time of appointment) in Oboe or Bassoon.
  • Additional experience teaching Woodwind Methods and reed making.

Skills And Abilities

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Expertise in musicianship and rehearsal techniques.
  • Ability to teach effectively at the university level, inspiring and guiding students in their musical journey.
  • A proven record of successfully recruiting and retaining students.
  • Collaborative and collegial, with the ability to work well within a diverse university environment and meet the needs of a diverse student body.
