Azure SQL/Database Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Azure SQL / Database Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing, designing, and optimizing Azure SQL databases, with a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure. This role requires someone who can ensure the performance, security, and availability of our databases while also contributing to the overall data strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Management: Design, implement, and manage Azure SQL databases to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize database performance through tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Data Security: Implement and manage security measures to protect sensitive data, including encryption, access control, and compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Manage and optimize the Azure cloud environment, including resource provisioning, scaling, and monitoring.
  • Database Design: Collaborate with development teams to design and implement scalable and efficient database schemas that meet business requirements.
  • Automation: Implement automation for repetitive tasks, including database deployments, backups, and monitoring.
  • Incident Management: Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner, providing support during incidents and outages.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with developers, DevOps, and IT teams to ensure seamless integration of database solutions with other systems and applications.
  • Writing Stored Procedures

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Azure SQL Expertise: Extensive experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and related Azure services.
  • Database Design and Architecture: Strong knowledge of database design principles, normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Performance Optimization: Proven experience in tuning databases for performance, including indexing, query optimization, and resource management.
  • Security and Compliance: Deep understanding of database security practices, data encryption, and regulatory compliance.
  • Backup and Recovery: Expertise in developing and implementing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Automation: Experience with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Azure CLI) for database management.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Solid understanding of Azure cloud infrastructure, including networking, storage, and resource management.
  • Incident Response: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues under pressure.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Azure certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect.
  • Experience with DevOps: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for database deployment and management.
  • Knowledge of Other Databases: Experience with other database technologies, such as SQL Server, MySQL, or NoSQL databases, is a plus.
  • Experience in Public Utilities is advantageous.
