We are an entirely virtual company, and this opportunity is 100% remote. 

Position Summary: The Billing Specialist will play a critical role in optimizing revenue cycle management processes and ensuring accurate and timely medical billing and coding practices, particularly within the Athena platform. The selected candidate will need to possess strong communication, negotiation and problem solving skills to effectively support patients, and the organization goals, mission and vision. The billing specialist will work closely with internal teams including: customer and patient experience, finance, clinical operations, and revenue cycle management. Responsibilities: 

  • Use the Athena platform to troubleshoot tele-health claims, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines, payer requirements, and regulatory standards.

  • Collaborate with the clinical team to provide insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits information before tele-health appointments, and assist patients with understanding financial responsibilities and payment options.

  • Manage and collect patient accounts receivable (AR), following up on outstanding balances, denials, and insurance claims.

  • Use Zendesk to respond to patient inquiries and resolve billing issues promptly and professionally.

  • Participate in audits and reviews of billing data to identify discrepancies, errors, or trends impacting revenue cycle performance.

  • Stay informed of changes in healthcare regulations, payer policies, and billing requirements to maintain compliance and maximize revenue capture.

  • Collaborate with insurance companies and third-party billing vendors to resolve disputes, negotiate payment arrangements, and optimize reimbursement rates for telehealth services.

  • Participate in cross-functional teams and projects to enhance the patient experience, optimize RCM workflows, and implement technology solutions to streamline billing processes.

You may have:

  • 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and coding in telehealth billing.

  • 2-3 years of experience in patient accounts receivable (AR) collection.

  • Experience using billing platforms like Athena, including familiarity with billing statements, payment plans, negotiating account balances, and responding to patient billing inquiries.

  • Experience with Zendesk or similar customer support platforms is preferred.

  • Understanding of medical billing processes, healthcare reimbursement principles, and coding guidelines (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS).

Work Hours

We are seeking individuals with flexible schedules who are willing and able to work: Sunday - Thursday (Start time: 10AM EST) OR Monday - Friday (Start time: 7AM EST)
