Job description

Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) is currently seeking a Certification Manager to work with the certification team. GBCI is the premier certification body responsible for global delivery and quality oversight of green building and green business sustainability standards. Its integrated team of green building specialists administers credentials and certifications for the U.S. Green Building Council (LEED), the International WELL Building Institute (WELL Building Standard), International Finance Corporation (EDGE), PEER, Sustainable SITES, TRUE Zero Waste, and IREE.

 

The Certification Manager is an integral member of the team focused on managing and scaling new certification programs, enhancing customer experience, and educating the marketplace. 


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage GBCI verification efforts for USGBC’s new performance-based portfolio verification program, including strategy, integration, quality control, reviews, and contractor management to maintain program integrity, customer trust and brand loyalty 
  • Serve as the primary GBCI Certification program liaison for all internal and external stakeholders, contractors, and customers 
  • Serve as primary GBCI subject matter expert and participate in quality control, verification review efforts, and escalated customer service 
  • Support business development and customer engagement efforts to cultivate long-term relationships  
  • Collect and synthesize customer feedback to inform verification programs, processes, and the development of new systems and tools  
  • Evolve the verification process to ensure seamless adaptability of the system to projects located in United States or anywhere globally. 
  • Manage program updates to public-facing verification guidance and tools  
  • Work with certification operations team to optimize program operations and tools, drive program effectiveness, and increase efficiency  
  • Regularly report program status, key performance indicators and lessons learnt to GBCI management and global market development teams.  
  • Provide technical customer service support, as needed 

 

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience with certification programs/conformity assessment (ISO 17029 preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of the synergies between built environment, natural environment, social systems, equity, resilience, and climate change 
  • Specialization and detailed technical understanding of and experience with one or more of the following topics: high-performance buildings, portfolio and real estate management, ESG, triple bottom line approaches to sustainability, energy and water efficiency, greenhouse gas accounting, climate risk assessments, emergency and safety plans, codes and ordinances. 
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret community, city, and national policy, state and federal regulations, incentives, programming, and planning documents, site plans, , construction specifications and operational policies. 
  • Detailed technical understanding of and experience with common codes, guides, rating systems, and standards relevant to specialty, (e.g., LEED, GRESB, ENERGY STAR, GHG Protocol, ASHRAE, BREEAM, Green Globes, TNFD, GRI, etc.)

  • Encourage and accelerate global adoption of sustainable development and green building practices through various sustainability standards, tools, and performance criteria 

 

Education and Training Requirements/Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in a field of study related to one or more of the following specialties: 

Commercial Real Estate Management/Business Administration 

Planning (urban/transportation/environmental planning, urban design) 

Architecture (architecture, landscape architecture, interior design) 

Engineering (mechanical, civil, structural) 

Sustainable Built Environment 

Public Policy/Administration 

Construction Management (or associated discipline) 

Environmental/Sustainability Science (ecology, biology, environmental management) 

  • Currently licensed professional in specialty area preferred. Other professional certifications as relevant to area of expertise. 
  • LEED GA required, LEED AP with specialty preferred (BD+C, ID+C, O+M, ND) 


Employee Supervision:

  • Future: Manage and supervise a team of up to 5 people 

 

Travel Requirements:

  • 5%

  • Ensure program participant success, as demonstrated by follow-through on verification commitments globally  
  • Meet program verification production metrics (quality, efficiency, and timeliness)  
  • Demonstrate process and program improvements that result in measurable improvements in customer experience and operational efficiency and simplification globally 
  • Achieve customer service satisfaction consistent with department goals
