This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at La Jolla and remote.

Description

The Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI) an organized research unit at UCSD, was established to provide education, training and infrastructure for clinical research in the San Diego area. It encompasses four hospital systems, two universities and four biomedical research organizations. It receives partial funding from a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the NIH, National Center for Advancing Translational Science. The ACTRI functions under the direction of Gary S. Firestein, M.D., Senior Associate Vice Chancellor UC San Diego Health Sciences.

Under general supervision of the Director of Finance, the incumbent provides financial management, administration, leadership and reporting for the ACTRI and clinical research administration (e.g. Office of Coverage Analysis Administration, Office of Clinical Trials Administration, Office of IRB Administration, etc.). The incumbent resolves variances, identifies problems, formulates and makes recommendations in accordance with departmental, university, and agency regulations, either independently or through coordinating the efforts of finance team members. The Lead Finance Analyst serves as a trusted resource and subject matter expert for team members on finance, analysis, and fund management areas. They will be responsible for post-award research administration to include proposal submissions and grant management, working in industry-standard applications such as Kuali and Oracle Financial Cloud.

Acts as liaison with the Controller's office, Vice Chancellor Health Sciences Business Finance team, General Accounting, and other central departments for the acquisition and administration of research and operational funding. Provides sound fiscal advice, assists and guides faculty and department support staff. Works closely with the Principal Investigators (PIs)/ Department Managers in reviewing and monitoring the fiscal status of funding sources including and making recommendations and offering solutions to resolve fiscal matters. Prepare regular reports and proposal accurately.

Uses advanced professional concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Contacts are both internal and external to the department at all levels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eleven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Advanced degree in related area plus five years of related experience/training
  • Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.
  • Advanced ability to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • In depth ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills at all levels within the organization; advanced service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. In depth ability to use organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to function as a member of a team.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
  • Demonstrated strong math skills and analytical capabilities.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated 6 or more years of experience with pre- and post-award research administration in a higher-education environment.
  • Advanced knowledge working with proposal submissions and grant management, working in industry-standard applications such as Kuali and Oracle Financial Cloud.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $94,400 - $176,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $45.21 - $84.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
