The Opportunity:

In accordance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule, Organizational Requirements, and under the direction of the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) and Deputy Chief Privacy Officer (DCPO), the Director of HIPAA Privacy Compliance is responsible for the activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to the organization’s policies and procedures covering the privacy of, and access to, patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws and the healthcare organization’s information privacy practices. The Director of Privacy Compliance is responsible to oversee all HIPAA privacy-related training requests, complaints, inquiries, and investigations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Makes outcome determination for HIPAA privacy-related complaints, inquiries and investigations.
  • Accountable for investigating, and acting on all questions and concerns concerning the organization’s HIPAA privacy policies and procedures
  • Makes critical decisions to ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy practices and consistent application of sanctions for failure to comply with HIPAA privacy policies for all individuals in the organization’s workforce in cooperation with Human Resources, the information security officer, department leadership and legal counsel as applicable
  • Participates in strategic decision making with the CPO, DCPO, Data Protection Officer, and CISO to implement and maintain the security safeguards and policies for Ensemble Health Partners as required by the HIPAA Security Rule
  • Responsible to ensure alignment between the HIPAA security and HIPAA privacy programs including policies, practices, investigations.
  • Develop and facilitate HIPAA Privacy Compliance training and education in conjunction with the CPO and Chief Compliance Officer (CCO)
  • Delivers all communication effectively with the CPO, DCPO, Human Resources Business Partners and Department Leaders regarding matters concerning any HIPAA Privacy Compliance issues and investigations
  • Participate in the business associate agreement process with the CPO and Associate Legal Counsel to ensure all HIPAA Privacy Rule concerns, requirements, and
  • Conduct routine and “for cause” HIPAA privacy assessments and audits to ensure compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule
  • Delivers communications to keep all associates updated of new regulations regarding Privacy Compliance or protection of PHI that affect them
  • Participate in the business associate agreement process with the CPO and Associate Legal Counsel to ensure all HIPAA Privacy Rule concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed
  • Conduct routine and “for cause” HIPAA privacy assessments and audits to ensure compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule
  • Participates in annual risk assessment process and development of annual compliance work plan
  • Manages members of the HIPAA Privacy Compliance Team as assigned
  • Effectively manages and resolves reported compliance concerns and facilitates critical conversations and investigation outcomes with leadership and clients
  • Other duties as assigned
