This Director, Relationship Management opportunity supports Nationwide National Partners. This role is focused on business development rather than sales. As a National Partner Managing Director, you'll provide strategic vision. You will also cultivate, develop, and maintain strategic partnerships with executive leadership of large national agencies, networks and brokers. You will maximize national agent, broker, and affinity relationships across all product lines to achieve profitable growth. This role requires excellent relationship building with stakeholders, communication and credibility as you will be communicating with executives at various levels both internally and externally.

This role requires approximately 50-75% national travel with a multi-night trip every other week to multiple sites. This role is open to remote work-from-home anywhere in the United States with good proximity to a major airport.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A strong business acumen and ability to read, assess and persuade against strategic initiatives and needs
  • Independent channel and national brokers experience
  • A collaborative approach and ability to lead by influence
  • Prior experience with commercial lines, personal lines, underwriting/product and/or financial services are strongly preferred

Job Description Summary

Nationwide National Partners supports a select number of the Top 100 Property & Casualty trading partners to help bring strategic priorities to life. We are charged with enterprise business development, and strategic broker relationships. We partner in the truest sense; we have a deep understanding of their business and develop an enterprise level strategy to support them using the full scope of products and capabilities from across Nationwide.

As Director, Relationship Management – National Partners, you will champion the executive, regional and key influencer relationships with Nationwide’s largest partners and you’ll develop and implement tactics to support and execute strategies that directly impact revenue, profit, and market share growth efforts across multiple business units, segments, and channels. In addition, your efforts will be key to forecasting business development opportunities and developing sales expansion strategies.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivates, fosters, and manages executive level relationships with key focus firms at the national, regional, and key influencer level.

  • Leverages Nationwide and Industry data to purposefully engage internal and external business partners.

  • Conducts strategy meetings with firm leadership to leverage strengths and develop new opportunities.

  • Drives growth at targeted returns to support the overall NNP plan.

  • Provides consultation and expertise across Nationwide business units.

  • Develops and implements tactics to support and execute strategic plans with external NNP managed firms/networks and aligns appropriate Nationwide business unit(s) to execute the initiatives.

  • Understands and articulates key strategies for internal business partners, to ensure national consistency for NNP managed firms/networks. 

  • Develops and implements cross-functional and/or cross-business unit teams to execute on identified strategic initiatives developed with NNP managed firms/networks.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.


Reporting Relationships: Reports to AVP/VP. Individual contributor role.

Typical Skills and Experiences: 

Education: Undergraduate studies in economics, business, risk management & insurance, marketing, or related fields preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: CPCU designation preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 8 years’ experience in insurance sales or in the insurance industry. Experience specifically in property and casualty operations is highly desirable. Five plus years of commercial underwriting experience for national and/or regional brokers and five plus years of C-suite or R-suite relationship building with national and/or regional brokers preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong knowledge of sales program implementation, distribution systems, project management and training concepts. Working knowledge of state laws and regulations required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to disseminate vision of senior leadership and to motivate a large producer force. Action-oriented and demonstrated drive for results. Solid working skills in common office software and personal computers. Ability to set work priorities and to initiate, evaluate and recommend solutions to upper management. High level of command skills and managerial courage. Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset, ability to develop meaningful relationships, possesses strong problem-solving skills and ability to build unique solutions with cross-functional teams.

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. 45-80% travel with extensive national overnight travel. Alternative work environment may include working from home.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for Director, Relationship Management - National Partners : $107,000.00-$207,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Director, Relationship Management - National Partners : $116,000.00 - $176,000.00
