This purpose of this position is to provide administrative and para-professional legal services in support of the Society’s General Counsel and Associate General Counsel and to further departmental and organizational strategic goals.  Specifically, this position will develop, implement, streamline &/or monitor programs and initiatives that reduce risk & expense, support business/revenue initiatives, improve training for Society staff, maintain consistency of compliance management, and improve customer service.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee day-to-day department management and coordinate attorney and attorney-related matters with Legal Department staff.
  • Provide customer service to internal customers at all levels of the organization.
  • Assist with review and preparation of a wide range of contracts, including consulting agreements, master services agreements & statements of work, events logistics agreements, licensing agreements, SaaS contracts, vendor contracts, contractor agreements, etc.
  • Support global corporate governance; prepare and file regulatory and business maintenance filings. Manage external vendor.
  • Support the maintenance and expansion of HIMSS’s global IP portfolio.
  • Research, draft and implement legal memoranda, policies, guidance and other legal documents as needed.
  • Maintain electronic database and physical contract files. Manage organization of legal department resources. 
  • Assist with administrative items including processing accounts payable, creating expense reports and coordinating attorney travel arrangements.
  • Develop presentations and staff training materials using PowerPoint, Excel and Word and prepare/update applicable meeting materials.
  • Manage Legal department workflow using internal “help desk” tools; triage business needs; independently respond to needs/issues as appropriate.  
  • Manage legal department vendor/service providers.
  • Proactively problem solve issues needing legal support/assistance.
  • Other duties as required to support the department’s strategic objectives.
What you will need to be successful::
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-law/Paralegal Studies or related field with strong academic performance required.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Salesforce a plus.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a legal assistant/paralegal; in-house experience and/or healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Must have excellent organizational, written and oral communication and analytical skills. Strong service orientation and attention to detail required. Must be able to work well under deadlines with minimum supervision.
