Description

The Group Sales Account Manager will manage an existing client base of group business from across the Appalachian Mountain Club’s seventeen lodging destinations spread from Maine to New Jersey. The Account Manager will maintain a high level of retention and will generate new business with the main goals of providing incredible outdoor experiences, increasing lodging occupancy and increasing lodging revenues at AMC destinations. AMC’s group business ranges from internal school programs to corporate retreats and weddings. This position would service a range of these group and program types.

 

The Group Sales Account Manager is a dynamic person with excellent organization, a high level of computer literacy, verbal communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience in sales, and hospitality services is desirable. The Group Sales Account Manager must be a team player, self-motivated, results-oriented and willing to go the extra step to ensure group sales objectives are achieved and that each group guest enjoys a successful educational and recreational experience.

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING AT AMC 

  • Establish positive relationships with new and existing groups contributing to the goal of 75% return rate for all groups.
  • Direct incoming sales calls toward the locations and experiences that best meet their needs and budgets to maximize closed business and retention rates.
  • Work in coordination with Marketing and other Sales Department staff to identify, screen, qualify, and close leads for group sales.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a high-quality database of AMC contacts through following proper procedures for documenting communications, accurate codification and contact information management.
  • Solicit referrals from group leaders and group participants to grow group business.
  • Represent the AMC and its destinations to groups by promoting a positive image of the AMC, its facilities and programs.
  • Coordinate hand-off to the Group Sales Coordinator through assignment of tasks and direct communication of specific needs of assigned groups.
  • Meet assigned group and individual group sales targets.
  • Provide input to the Marketing and Communications staff during the creation and updating of promotional sales materials.
  • Attend sales and trade shows as assigned
  • Network in assigned region to grow local group business.
  • Visit and/or host potential group sales customers, as assigned.
  • Perform other associated tasks as requested that further the organization and the mission.
Qualifications

 

  • A four year college degree in a related area such as marketing, business management, hospitality management, recreation management, or another appropriate subject, or equivalent experience, is required.
  •  Experience in sales and marketing in hospitality facilities is preferred.
  •  Proficiency with computers involving MS-Word and Excel.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially telephone skills.
  • Ability to learn and operate Maestro, AMC’s property managment system.
  • Ability to learn and operate SalesForce, AMC’s Customer Relations Management software.
  • Experience in a customer service professional environment.
  •  Willing and able to travel to all AMC destinations in order to perform sales responsibilities.
  •  Willing and able to work weekends, holidays as nights as assigned.
  •  A general knowledge of the AMC and its mission is desirable.
  •  Be able to work in a team environment.
  •  Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Physical abilities required: work is performed in a standard office setting, operating standard office equipment. Occasionally requires ability to travel safely to varied backcountry locations, carrying personal gear up to 25 pounds.
