Specialist, Risk Management

The Specialist, Risk Management will oversee the administration of workers’ compensation, auto, property, and general liability claims. This role involves monitoring claims throughout their lifecycle, working with the TPA and our more than 300 stores to control costs and minimize future risks. You will collaborate with leadership to ensure efficient claims management and support risk mitigation strategies. As a key team member, you will act as an auditor and advocate, contributing to effective claims processes and safeguarding the organization.

As a Specialist, Risk Management, you will be an integral part of our risk management team, contributing to the success of our claims-handling processes and safeguarding the organization against potential risks.

Location: Medford, OR or Remote, OR

Compensation Range: $40,000 - $65,000 annually

Actual pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the reporting, auditing, and oversight of all claim types—Auto Liability (AL), General Liability (GL), and Workers' Compensation (WC)—handled both internally and by our TPA partner.
  • Provide accurate and timely responses to inquiries from insurance carriers, claim adjusters, and internal management, including regular updates to impacted store/department management.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Specialist and department leadership in conducting risk assessments, identifying potential hazards, and contributing to the development of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Foster effective communication with internal teams and external partners to ensure smooth operations and problem resolution.
  • Build collaborative business relationships to streamline the claims resolution process and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Oversee the request and management of all Certificates of Insurance and Bonds, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Manage and administer internal 1st Party liability claims not referred to the TPA by performing tasks such as investigating, obtaining statements, drafting denial letters, and more.
  • Participate in periodic claim reviews with the TPA to assist in developing action plans for complex claims and implementing process improvements.
  • Collect and present claims information to leadership using PowerPoint, effectively conveying key details and insights.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous experience or education in insurance, business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and a willingness to learn about data analysis tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
  • High attention to detail and strong data management abilities.
  • A strong desire to learn and adapt to new risk management practices.
  • Basic understanding of industry regulations or a willingness to learn, with a commitment to compliance.
  • Effective time management skills to prioritize and complete tasks on schedule.
