TITLE: Individual and Planned Giving Manager


PRIMARY FUNCTION:   The Individual and Planned Giving Manager serves as the primary point of contact for individual donors, addressing donor inquiries, stewarding donors, and identifying and cultivating those who are interested in making a planned gift to the Society. The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Society’s Planned Giving Program. The Manager works under the general supervision of the Vice President, Chief Development and Communications Officer (CDCO), and direct supervision of the Director, Development.  This position is located at NMCRS HQ in Arlington, VA. Primary work location is in office with limited remote work available.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND MAJOR TASKS:

  • Serves as primary point of contact for individual donor inquiries. Ensures prompt and accurate response from Development team members. As appropriate, incorporates donors into the pipeline for planned giving cultivation.
  • In coordination with the Director, Development, develops annual Planned Giving plan, goals and objectives, and helps ensure the successful implementation of the plan.
  • Serves as the primary contact for prospective and current members of NMCRS’ planned giving society.  Stewards these donors, including maintaining regular correspondence schedule.
  • Prepares all acknowledgement and other correspondence to ensure donors, trustees, administrators, and executors are provided with the necessary documentation relating to bequests, wills, and other planned gifts.
  • Ensures that all records relating to prospective and current planned giving donors are properly maintained and updated in the NMCRS donor database’s planned giving module.
  • Works with Director, Development and Development Database Administrator to identify prospective planned giving donors within in the existing database. Ensures proper tracking of interactions with these donors, through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Coordinates with third-party vendors in the development of materials, including web assets and print collateral, designed to market and promote planned giving opportunities in support of NMCRS.
  • Researches trends in planned giving and new/emerging tools for marketing planned gifts; provides updates and recommendations to Director and CDCO on how to leverage these tools to expand the Society’s planned giving program. As appropriate, incorporates these efforts into the existing program.
  • Prepares reports on the status of the planned giving program, including reports for the Society’s auditors and Annual Report.
  • Performs all other position related duties and responsibilities, as directed.
  • Adheres to all established NMCRS policies and procedures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  1. Required
    1. BA/BS degree, or four years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Experience

  1. Required
    1. Three or more years of hands-on nonprofit fundraising experience 
    2. Proven track record of sensitivity and the ability to foster trust while providing excellent customer/donor service and stewardship
    3. Excellent written and oral communication skills
    4. Strong proficiency in MS Office, MSO 365, and with donor databases
  2. Preferred
    1. Three years of fundraising experience in the field of planned giving, including in the development and implementation of effective planned giving marketing campaigns, targeting existing donors and others with an affinity to the nonprofit’s mission 
    2. Knowledge of USN and USMC organizations and rank structures
    3. Knowledge of Society mission and history
    4. Customer-service mindset with strong understanding of core development functions and donor stewardship practices
    5. Proficiency in use of software designed for donor and prospect research and screening

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Employee works in a general office environment, with no exposure to extreme temperature changes or hazardous materials
  • Employee is generally exposed to no more than a normal level of noise

 

*Hiring salary will be $75,000 - $80,000, depending on qualifications
