Job description

Join a fast growing start up changing the real estate investing industry!

Backflip is a venture-backed FinTech company that empowers anyone to improve their life and their neighborhood through real estate investing. To do that, we need people who are inspired to reimagine and rebuild an outdated and unbalanced system; to support and celebrate America’s local entrepreneurs. Check out the Backflip app here to experience first hand how we're making a difference through our technology.

As a Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack) at Backflip, you will play a pivotal role in the development and enhancement of our products and platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, take ownership of challenging projects, and contribute to the success of the company. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while embracing a collaborative mindset.

This position is remote (U.S.) and a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor (~60 person team) working directly with senior leaders in a well-capitalized startup with a great culture (Check out our recently announced $15M Series A).

What You’ll Do:
  • Design, develop, and maintain full-stack solutions using Python, React, and React Native.
  • Innovate and execute on features to enhance the user experience and platform capabilities.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality software.
  • Contribute to the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable and maintainable code.
  • Write and maintain automated tests to ensure robustness.
  • Deploy applications to various cloud-based environments, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with teams to build RESTful APIs and integrate other backend technologies.
  • Estimate work efforts accurately and ensure project milestones are met.
  • Stay current with industry trends and bring innovative ideas to the team.

  • Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Python and React, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies like JavaScript and React.js.
  • Mastery of software development best practices and principles.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Familiarity with cloud frameworks such as AWS, GCP, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of design patterns, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and backend web technologies.
  • Familiarity with Docker and container-based environments.
  • Ability to provide accurate estimates and deliver high-quality code within deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (8+ years) in building applications.

  • Bonus Skills:
  • Experience working with GraphQL.
  • Experience with mobile application development for iOS and Android.
  • Experience with machine learning techniques such as LLMs, NLP, and computer vision.
  • Experience working in an Agile team environment.
  • Experience in researching and vetting third-party API providers.
  • Familiarity with geo-spatial search techniques.
  • Background in real estate, real estate investment, and/or FinTech is a plus.

  • This candidate will champion Backflip’s culture & Core Values:
  • Raise the standard of what is possible
  • Embrace being the novice to become the master
  • Work only with those who want the best for us
  • Communicate quickly, naturally and with radical candor
  • Test new things to invent and challenge the status quo
  • Today, nay now!
  • Compensation for this role includes a base salary ranging from $165,000 - $180,000 plus an annual bonus ranging from $10,000 - $20,000, and is based on a variety of factors including prior experience, geographic location, stock option grant, and other factors, and may fall outside of the stated range for certain candidates. In addition to a competitive market salary, Backflip employees receive equity stock options, paid health care, and a 401K + company match, among other industry-leading benefits.
