Your missions

Do you want to empower organizations to fairly and equitably hire, promote, retain and compensate their employees? Syndio is a Series-C technology company committed to fairness in the workplace. Fueled by investments of $83M from Bessemer Ventures, Voyager Capital and social change organization Emerson Collective, Syndio is investing in growing our team and products.

This is a critical moment when organizations are looking for ways to take tangible action to fight gender and racial bias, and we believe creating diverse and inclusive workplaces for all starts with workplace equity.

About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Payroll and HR Compliance specialist to join our People & Culture team. Reporting directly to the Director of People & Culture, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with payroll and HR regulations. Your responsibilities will include processing payroll, managing employee benefit administration, overseeing HR compliance initiatives, and providing guidance and support to employees on related matters. A successful candidate will have a strong understanding of US federal and state employment laws, as well as certified experience in payroll processing and HR compliance. You will also be a skilled communicator with excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Why this job is exciting
  • Primary point person for employee questions, concerns, and guidance on global payroll, leave management, global benefits administration, HR audits, workers' compensation, and policy management.
  • Assist in creation, regular review and update of payroll and HR policies and procedures to ensure they are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Oversee all aspects of payroll processing and benefits program administration, for US and UK-based employees including:
    • Conduct internal audits to identify and address any potential compliance issues.
    • Coordinate with payroll providers to prepare and submit all required reports to government agencies, such as tax authorities and labor departments
    • Stay up-to-date on changes in payroll and HR laws and regulations, and provide guidance to employees on how these changes affect them.
    • Work closely with legal counsel to ensure that all payroll and HR practices are compliant with the law.
  • Work with local Employer of Record (EOR or PEO) for any contract local hire payroll processing and benefit administration
  • Own and organize people data in the HRIS for compliance and generate reporting from HRIS and People systems.
  • Maintain employee-facing collateral for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with People projects as assigned.
  • Participate in preparation and delivery of new hire onboarding and employee training sessions.
  • Promote the company's reputation.
About you
  • You have 5+ years progressive experience in a software company and/or rapid growth organization in a People operations/HR position
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification (or in process) required
  • Deep knowledge of benefits administration, UK & US employment regulations, workers compensation, leave management, 401k, and global compliance.
  • Experience managing multiple projects at once, tracking performance and regularly providing visibility to multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and are comfortable interacting with all levels of the company, while discerning and managing confidential and sensitive information.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Self-motivated, able to execute on very clear objectives, with minimal hand-holding or supervision, while reaching out for support as needed from our collaborative team.
  • Diligently curious, eager to engage deeply with our team to understand opportunities for improvement and growth.
  • Excited to own and drive initiatives within Syndio that leverage and build on your skills and interests.
  • You thrive in an all-hands-on-deck, collaborative startup environment, and lean into challenges and aren’t intimidated to find answers to questions outside of your immediate area of expertise.
  • Passionate about our mission to advance workplace fairness, and share that passion in your interactions with candidates.

We don't expect anyone to have all the answers, as long as you're willing to learn and grow with us.

Employees joining the Syndio team at this early stage of growth will impact this critical social issue and support a growing customer base (including Nordstrom, General Mills, Match Group, and others) to take tangible action on workplace fairness.

Syndio is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are building an inclusive and collaborative workplace as we grow, and we welcome team members regardless of gender/identity, sexual orientation, race or cultural background, religion, physical disability and age.
