Job description

Overview:

Kimley-Horn’s Orlando, Florida (FL) office is seeking a Power Studies Engineer with 4+ years experience to join their Electrical team. With a focus on serving clients within the power delivery and renewable energy sectors, the Power Studies Engineer will act as a technical expert in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems. This is not a remote position. 

Responsibilities:
  • Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for power delivery or generation projects

  • Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support

  • Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards

  • Studies performed may include (per candidate experience):

    • Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM

    • Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis

    • Thermal Ampacity studies using software like AmpCalc or CYMCAP

    • Grounding studies using WinIGS, CDEGS, or SKM Ground Mat

    • Transient studies using PSS/E, PSCAD, or PSLF

    • Harmonic studies using ETAP or transient software

    • Relay setting development using SEL AcSELerator

  • Partner with the electrical team to create calculations anddrawings for power delivery and/or renewable energy projects

  • Continually gain knowledge in industry

Qualifications:
  • 4+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC
  • 1+ years' project management experience
  • EIT certification or path to move towards certification is preferred
  • CYMCAP, SKM, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, PSCAD, WinIGS, or CDEGS experience preferred
  • Understanding or willing to learn, the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies
  • General understanding of engineering and energy systems
  • Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently
  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
