Finance Director - Asia

Overview

The Finance Director, Asia is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial teams across the region to deliver business insight and drive financial performance whilst ensuring robust financial controls.

You will work closely with our regional and group finance teams and the multi-country executive management teams to support profitable growth through development and execution of financial and operational plans.

This position interacts with our Executive Leaders across Asia consisting of, but not limiting to nine main Asia countries, as well as the executive global leadership team, making it a highly visible role within the company.

Responsibility

Business Support

  • Business partner to regional CEO and COO to develop and execute operational and financial plans
  • Analysis, management and improvement of financial performance
  • Key member of the senior management team with influence and involvement in major strategic and operational decisions

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Manage country finance teams to ensure timely reporting to group finance, including ongoing development of regional finance hub in Malaysia
  • Presentation and explanation of performance against budget, forecast and prior year
  • Management of balance sheet including hands-on review
  • Ensuring financial control including process management and segregation of duties
  • Managing statutory and US GAAP reporting including annual audit
  • Ensure regulatory and statutory compliance in each country

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Preparation, review and management of annual budgets and periodic forecasts
  • Analyse and monitor company revenue and profitability
  • Preparation and execution of business plans

Cash Management and Funding

  • Lead working capital management across the region
  • Preparation and review of cash flow forecasts
  • Working closely with corporate treasury in maintaining controls on payments, authority levels and management of bank accounts
  • Managing relationships with banks and other external stakeholders

Other

  • Working with our mergers and acquisitions team on due diligence, financial analysis and integration of acquisitions
  • Work closely with corporate colleagues including Colleague Resources, Legal, Real Estate and IT
  • Working closely with finance colleagues to share and develop best practice

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties related to the finance function as required by the CFO or the executive management team
  • Other duties may include preparing ad-hoc reports, conducting financial analysis, or participating in cross-functional initiatives
  • Other duties may be assigned from time to time depending on the strategic and operational needs of the organisation, and will be communicated to the employee in a timely manner
  • Other duties are an essential part of the role and require the same level of skills, knowledge, and accountability as the main duties

Person Specification

  • An Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) with a strong academic profile.
  • Ideally degree qualified in a related field
  • Broad finance leadership covering full range of finance disciplines, having operated strategically at Director level
  • Proven track record of successfully, building, leading and motivating a mixed ability team
  • Strong systems skills, with experience of implementation of finance systems desirable
  • Practical knowledge of major global accounting and regulatory standards and regional corporate tax laws
  • To have worked with a leadership team to develop a multi territory financial strategy
  • A background in the service, outsourced, fee earning, professional services industries would be a distinct advantage
  • Understanding of the insurance industry is desirable but not essential
  • Highly skilled in setting and driving the financial strategy and translating the operational activity into financial impact
  • Ability to coach, motivate and empower people across the business at different levels from Financial Controllers to junior accounts colleagues.
  • Strong inter-personal, communication and influencing skills and ability to build strong stakeholder relationships
  • Adaptable and able to respond to changing demands and can prioritise work effectively
  • Hybrid working (ideally 2 - 3 days in the office per week)
