Job description

Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with technical support centers in South East Asia and East Africa, that provide program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

The Structural Seismic Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safety and stability of structures in earthquake-prone areas worldwide. You need to be adept at designing and reviewing structural plans to ensure they meet seismic safety standards. Able to handle projects from different locations with a broad understanding of seismic activity in various regions and the ability to adapt designs accordingly.

This position is open to remote work. Our salary range, based on the market data, is $80k to $110k/year (the range varies depending on experience and qualifications).

Key responsibilities:

  • Test a variety of materials, such as steel or concrete, to determine how much damage they can sustain during seismic events
  • Perform structural calculations following modern and historic building codes in support of building investigations or seismic retrofit
  • Responsible for planning and conducting independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs, and monitor work for compliance with applicable codes and accepted engineering practices
  • Perform design work for new construction, renovations, and improvement projects
  • Interpret and adapt traditional methods and approaches in developing design calculations, layouts, drawings, and specifications that support project objectives and standards
  • Provide design services including preparation of design drawings, structural evaluations, and designs
  • Follow and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for design review and project mobilization as necessary
  • Comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and perform work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment
  • Perform construction management duties including reviewing construction documents and submittals, performing and documenting daily inspections, and assisting with project punch lists
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  •  Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Must be a Professional Engineer
  • Successfully passed the Civil Seismic Principles exam or has a Seismic Certification
  • Minimum of 10 years of design experience gained from the engineering/construction management industry
  • Previous experience working on US Government and military domestic and international projects preferred
  • Familiarity with military programming rules and documentation, advantage
  • Thorough knowledge of civil design and engineering techniques
  • Proficient in creating designs using AutoCAD, Revit and the use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Must be willing to travel for occasional international assignments.
  • Able to obtain Secret Clearance.
  • Must lawfully reside in the United States and be eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits)
