Job description

Position Summary

Peer tutors support students in comprehending academic concepts and developing study skills that will contribute to the student’s academic achievement. Tutors must possess a passion for helping and motivating students to learn new or complex concepts. Peer tutors assist fellow students individually, in small groups, or via ASC Chat to provide personalized support and encouragement.

Essential Functions:

  • Work collaboratively with students in individual or group tutoring sessions.
  • Suggest ways for students they tutor to improve study skills and learning strategies (both general and course-specific).
  • Complete documentation related to student interactions and other related duties.
  • Refer students as needed to other centers or university services.
  • Understand and respect student confidentiality.
  • Provide daily support to team members.

Requirements:

  • Two (2) recommendations from faculty members. One recommendation must be from a content area expert (i.e., department chair or instructor).
  • Good standing with a GPA minimum of 3.0.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 in the area(s) they tutor.
  • Must be a current National University student who has completed a current FAFSA
  • Ability to work up to 20 hours per week with a varied working schedule.

Technical / Functional Skills: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Power Point)
  • Ability to work independently and also work well with a team of diverse cultures, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies.  Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position. The minimum salary will be offered based on the minimum exemption threshold based on state of residency. Compensation Range:

Hourly: $17.00 - $19.00
