Vice President, Technical Operations

Location: Longueuil, QC—Possibility to work from home #LI-Remote

mdf commerce Inc. is an international team of approximately 650 experts who develop a broad set of SaaS solutions to optimize and accelerate commercial interactions of its B2B and B2G customers.

The Vice President Technical Operations will oversee mdf commerce infrastructure in the eProcurement division. The successful candidate has experienced in managing a team handling multi-cloud infrastructure, data centers, security and application deployments at scale and complexity. The candidate will be able to transform, drive scale & operations efficiency, and enable future strategy for business growth. They will drive a 24x7 technical support organization, and interface with external customers and internal stakeholders globally.

The Vice President of Technical Operations will partner with product engineering to support tier 3 issues. You will coach and develop a strong team of support engineers in an agile environment built on modern technology and a multi-cloud environment. This role is remote and can be based in Canada or the United States.

What will your main responsibilities look like?

In this role, you will be led to:

• Oversee all of infrastructure management—data warehousing, production systems, business applications, databases, and cloud systems.
• Oversee the health of our production environments through operational leadership of our external and cloud technology platforms.
• Implement/Maintain 24/7 monitoring and tracking to proactively detect and correct issues before clients are impacted.
• Build and maintain a motivated, high performance, metrics-driven team that embraces the principles of passion for service excellence, teamwork, adaptability, integrity, continuous improvement, and a sense of urgency.
• Provide technical leadership to ensure all external systems have reliability and uptime respecting customer service level agreement.
• Analyze the technology we currently use for design, development and administration for efficiency and accuracy.
• Collaborate with product teams during conceptual design to ensure what is built is operationally feasible within current infrastructure.
• Collaborate with professional services team to set up new enterprise customer environments for implementation.
• Maintain and enforce network, application and data security policies, procedures and standards that protect the company from internal and external risks.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to cloud infrastructure and information security.
• Participate in RFP for infrastructure and security responses.
• Develop and manage budgets for operations and cloud infrastructure.
• Provide support, feedback, coaching to foster a highly motivated technical operations team.
• Lead the response to production issues and the root cause analysis process.
• Improve technical operations processes and monitoring to address issues quickly.

What elements of your professional background will be necessary and useful in this role?

You are/have:

• Bachelor’s Degree Required; Masters or MBA a plus.
• 10+ years of experience in software development, cloud architecture and/or technical operations with 10 years’ experience in leadership role.
• Experience with best of breed infrastructure solutions, including proven experience with Amazon AWS.
• Understanding of overall system architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Demonstrated experience managing a 24/7 response team.
• Leadership experience with end-to-end information security practices, compliance requirements, data privacy, sovereignty and confidentiality practices, security testing and auditing, and rapid response procedures.
• Knowledge of technical, operational and cultural structures required to scale teams in a high-growth environment.
• Proven experience with software development pipeline tools: Bitbucket, Git, Jenkins, Maven.
• Proven experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) and configuration management tools: Terraform, Ansible, Saltstack, etc.
• Proven experience with monitoring and configuration management: Zabbix, Weave, Datadog.
• Proven experience with virtualization and container management systems: Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
