Salary Band : $ 77,000 - $ 86,000 / year

In this role, you will :

Responsibility 1: Home Based Duties

  • Contribute to clinical services as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provides input in CRC clinical operations across Canada.
  • Ensure consistency within P/T and National guidelines, with final authorization provided by the CRC Medical Director or Director - Clinical Services, Canada as per clinical accountability structure.
  • Under the direction of the Director clinical services, maintain ongoing provincial, regional, or local partner relationships as assigned, and attend coordination meetings where appropriate, as related to clinical operations in collaboration with Geo Health Directors.
  • Maintains communication and collaboration with Clinical Readiness Roster Managers and as required, assists in monitoring readiness requirements to support clinical candidates for deployment.
  • Review and offer amendments where needed to clinical learning paths as applicable to specific provincial response operations ensuring CRC compliance with provincial /Territorial Health Authority requirements and the provincial legislative framework.

Responsibility 2: Deployments to emergency contexts

  • The Clinical Specialist is considered on deployment anytime they are not based from home. This will include operational deployments as well as working at CRC headquarters and supporting trainings.
  • Liaise alongside the Director - Clinical Services, and with National HiE team, providing briefings and updates on clinical issues relating to the provincial response.
  • Works collaboratively with the Geo Health Director, HiE and Director - Clinical Services, Canada on operations/ coordination and clinical aspects of operation, respectively.
  • Under direction of the Director clinical services, oversee non-clinical staff in health-related operations in collaboration with leadership counterparts (including but not limited to Operations and Public Health Lead).
  • As required, will liaise with partner agency staff on the ground on clinical related issues and report back to Geo Health director and/or Medical Director with any updates and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Maintain and streamline appropriate resource materials within appropriate folder(s) updating relevant SOPs, guidelines, training materials specific to any CRC operation (accessible to deployed personnel).
  • Ensure professional accountability of clinicians is held throughout entirety of operation, including quality assurance. This includes ensuring the team meets or exceeds standards of care as set out by their regulatory colleges (if applicable) and through evidence-based best practice.
  • Work with Operations Manager(s) and Geo Health Directors to streamline operations across clinical and leadership personnel (among different sites across operations as directed).

What we are looking for :

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Bachelor of Nursing (BN), or Diplome d’Études Collégiales (DEC) in Nursing, or BNI (DEC-BAC).
  • Current Professional Registration in one province in Canada is required.
  • Professional certification or post-graduate qualification in public health, , nursing, emergency management, epidemic prevention and control, or another relevant field is an asset.
  • At least 3-5 years clinical experience.
  • Experience in health needs assessment and the design of health programming, particularly vaccinations, testing, contact tracing is an asset.
  • Experience living or working in a cultural context other than their own and/or in remote and isolated communities in Canada is an asset.
  • Strong communication, diplomacy, and negotiation skills for work in a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary context.
  • Deploys to field operations at least 50% of the time, within the geography and across Canada as required.
  • Able to travel on short notice to other destinations within the province for periods of several weeks (2-6 weeks) is a requirement.
  • Experience living / working in Indigenous communities in Canada is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate in Cree, Ojibway, Oji Cree, Inuktitut, or other Indigenous language is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Bilingual proficiency in French is preferred. In Quebec, fluency in French is required.
  • Training, facilitation, coaching, and education skills is a big asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel to both natural disasters, epidemic and other types of responses on short notice will be frequently required. Field deployments can involve working in environments that are unstable and with unpredictable access to basic services in emergency contexts. Deployment work involves stressful and often ambiguous conditions. While not on deployment the PH Specialist works from a home-based office.
  • Due to dynamic nature of an emergency and proximity to epidemic/pandemic affected area, issues with access and mobility and strict protocols and procedures.
  • Long hours of work in demanding context with limited resources.
  • The ability to work in a high risk, fluid and evolving situation may be required, as is the ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions.
