Job Summary:  

In this role, you will have sales responsibility and territory management for British Columbia, Alberta, and Territories representing all imprints; Harper Canada, Harper US, Harper UK, HCCP, Harlequin and Usborne.

Responsibilities:
  • Selling activities and support of all HCC products to independent booksellers and trade wholesalers. Presenting frontlist title catalogues to independent booksellers seasonally.
  • Managing backlist sales strategies using product lists and product category ranking reports.
  • Facilitating regularly scheduled business reviews with key accounts.
  • Attend virtual and occasional in-person sales conferences and key meetings.
  • Attend and participate in semiannual book fairs in Victoria and Calgary.
  • Provide responses and resolutions for retailer issues and concerns stemming from order placement through to delivery within a reasonable timeframe.
  • In-store support of HCC titles involving placement and monitoring of sell-through of key sellers and reorder processes.
  • Assist in setup and oversee the completion of our credit application and discount policies for new HCC accounts.
  • Assist retailers in using co-op for their marketing initiatives, profiling key titles and bestsellers through our approved marketing-based promotions.
  • Work with the Publicity department as a liaison to create successful independent bookstore events.

Qualifications:

Specific training or job experience required includes:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant sales experience.
  • Post-Secondary Education – specializing in marketing, communications, or business management
  • Book publishing courses or experience in the book industry is an asset.
  • High degree of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting in front of groups, one-on-one, and over the phone.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, ability to multi-task and identify priorities.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and basic computer skills, especially Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

The salary range for this position is $55,000-65,000 + bonus. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
