Overview:

This position is located in Ulukhaktok, NT.

 

Under the general supervision and direction of the Manager Generation Support, Beaufort Delta. The Plant Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the power generation facility and distribution facilities to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable supply of electricity to the community.  To represent and support corporate programs and business initiatives and provide effective customer service within the community.  To participate as a member of the Thermal Operations Division in determining objectives and priorities and to undertake cross training in other program areas as determined by the Thermal Management Team.

Responsibilities:

In a team environment, under the direction of the Community Support Group Leader:

  • Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
  • Ensure the safety of other employees, contractors and the general public in the workplace by:
    • Reporting any failure to adhere to safety practices or rules.
    • Providing detailed orientations and identification of hazards to all visitors
    • Removing hazards or make the workplace safe when leaving a work area.
  • Participates in team meetings in accordance with the principles of team management to determine generation program objectives, to provide input to group financial and program planning, and to assess and coordinate unit workload and priorities.
  • Operates and maintains power generation equipment and facilities in accordance with corporate procedures, performs daily plant inspections and reports, and ensures that routine and emergency repairs and maintenance are completed in a timely and efficient manner, with assistance from the Manager of Generation Support Beaufort Delta, Maintenance services, and the Distribution Team as required.

  • Under the direction of the Manager of Generation Support in the Beaufort Delta, de-energize and isolate/energize and return to service, units, plants and their respective auxiliary equipment as per Work Protection Code procedures.
  • Provides immediate response in emergency situations including power outages and equipment failures to identify and correct problems with direction and assistance from Manager of Generation Support in the Beaufort Delta, Maintenance Services, and the Distribution Team as required.

  • Attend virtually or be willing to travel to Inuvik and/or Yellowknife for mandatory training requirements.

  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma (or equivalent) plus related mechanical or electrical experience or plant operator training; or a minimum of grade 10 with at least three years of relevant experience may be considered. Must be able to provide diploma and/or transcripts to show level of education.
  • Related journeyperson certification would be an asset.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimum direct supervision in a location remote from the regional office.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to maintain effective, open, and reliable communications with team members, customers, and community representatives.
  • Administrative, supervisory, and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and assignments, direct the work of staff, and to provide documentation, reports, and recommendations to the regional office.
  • Excellent knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
  • Must have basic Computer skills to operate a variety of software related to financial, administrative and reporting systems, e-mail, internet, etc.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Must be willing to travel for mandatory training when required.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 NWT driver’s license. 
  • Satisfactory criminal record check required.

Salary for this position ranges from $38.75/hr - $47.07hr. plus approximately $21,226 in location allowance per annum. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health and dental benefits, disability insurance, life insurance, paid sick days and a defined benefits pension plan. Relocation assistance may be provided. This position is located in Ulukhaktok, NT -- this is not a rotational/fly-in position.
