People Advisory Lead

The role

As the People Advisory Lead you will be leading a small team of People Advisors to provide strong, consistent and professional advice to managers and employees across Saab Australia. The People Advisory Lead role is a hands-on role, taking on the more complex cases and escalating to the People Business Partners or People Partnering Manager as necessary.

With a solid understanding of contemporary P&C practices, including industrial and employee relations and how they align to the people strategy, priorities and objectives, the People Advisory team work in partnership with the broader P&C team to implement aligned and consistent people practices across the business. 

The People Advisory Lead is responsible for leading a highly motivated and professional team to deliver legally sound advice, guidance and coaching to leaders and employees on the implementation of processes that positively contribute to culture, engagement, business performance and the employee lifecycle, aligned to the people strategy and plans.

The People Advisory Lead will lead by example to build effective relationships, coach and influence leaders and other stakeholders, and prioritise to ensure successful management of IR/ER matters across the whole team.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring to the Advisory team with a focus on inclusion, transparency and empowerment, ensuring exceptional management of IR/ER matters, interpretation and response to leader and employee queries, Service Hub tickets and all responsive people advisory matters. Act as an escalation point and take the lead for complex matters, ensuring consistent and effective practices and decisions. Escalate to the People Partnering Manager as required.
  • Promote the “One Saab” philosophy and support the ongoing enhancement of Saab’s culture aligned with company values, performance requirements and opportunities for our people to contribute in an inclusive, collaborative and positive, non-judgemental environment.
  • Lead the team to, and also provide a hands-on service to, managers and employees across the business on all IR/ER matters and P&C policy or process queries.
  • Coordinate and manage employee relations issues by providing timely and consistent coaching, advice and support to both leaders and employees.
  • Coach leaders and employees through the policies and procedures to ensure harmonious and productive workplace relations are maintained, and compliance with Australian legislative requirements is met at all times.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Demonstrated success and experience working in a similar P&C role, ideally within defence or an equally complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Transparent, empowering, coaching and inclusive leadership style.
  • Strong understanding of, and ability to interpret ER/IR legislation, industrial relations instruments, policies and frameworks.
  • Commercially and politically astute.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to influence leaders to take the right approach.
  • Knowledge and understanding of contemporary and best practice HR approaches.


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to baseline level or have the ability to gain one.
