Job Description:
This is a field position in Southeast Nebraska, working to enforce state and federal laws and regulations for the manufacture, distribution, or sale of animal feed (food) and ingredients intended for use by animals.
Location: Work from a home-based office in the counties of Hall, Hamilton, Clay, Nuckolls, Fillmore, Thayer, Saline, Jefferson, Gage, Cass, Otoe, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, Richardson and the southern portions of Seward, York and Lancaster Counties.

Job duties
• Inspecting feed mills, distribution centers and retail locations manufacturing, storing, and distributing feed/food for livestock and other animals.
• Writing inspection reports and communicating results of inspections to the firm and the department.
• Reviewing labeling and production documentation for animal feed/foods.
• Obtaining samples for analysis and submitting to the laboratory.
• Assist other NDA divisions as necessary.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework/training in agriculture, plant/animal or natural sciences, or other program related field OR a vocation certificate in electrical, mechanical, engineering or other program related field. AND Two years’ experience working in a relevant discipline.
Preferred Qualifications: production or regulatory work.
Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High school diploma and post-secondary training in agriculture, commercial feed manufacturing or related field. Experience can be substituted for education.
• Good oral communication with the regulated community
• Written communication for inspections and emails
• Basic computer skills in Microsoft office
• Utilizing electronic devices to capture inspectional data in a prompt and efficient way
• Ability to walk on rough terrain, climb stairs and ladders if necessary
• Work in hot, cold, or dusty environments
• Be able to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis
• Comply with protocols and procedures for the department and at the regulated firms
• Legally drive a state-owned vehicle
