JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Managing Director, Human Resources will oversee the development and implementation of strategies, programs, and processes related to the acquisition, development, retention, and management of team members in US Property Management (USPM). This role will work across all levels of the business and serve as a trusted partner to leadership, providing a value-add service that supports the delivery of the organization’s goals and furthers employee engagement.

You will be collaborating closely with colleagues in the US and internationally. This is a senior influential role requiring a commercial, collaborative, customer-centric approach. This is a new role for the USPM business that will require a self-starter mindset, where the incumbent will play a key role in defining and prioritizing focus areas to drive success.

This role will report to the Executive Director, Strategic Services Group within USPM and have a dotted line to the Senior Managing Director, Enterprise People & Culture. They will support a client group of c. 2,500 corporate and 19,000 property based employees and have 3-4 direct reports.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the USPM People & Culture (P&C) function; defining the necessary roles and positions required for achieving the business unit’s priorities and goals, and recruiting, hiring, managing, and developing the team.
  • Partner with leaders to deliver an HR strategy that supports growth and operational stability whilst protecting and embedding Greystar’s culture and values.
  • Coach and advise senior leaders in all aspects of HR, including: talent management, organizational design, talent acquisition, total rewards and team member satisfaction, retention, and performance.
  • Develop annual business plans and budgets tailored to the needs of the USPM business, overseeing strategic initiatives’ implementation and progress tracking.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate execution of talent-related activities associated with property and portfolio takeovers, as well as acquisitions and mergers to ensure a smooth acquisition and integration of new team members into their employment with Greystar. 
  • Analyze internal data to assess team member experience and in collaboration with leaders, deliver an engaging employee value proposition that supports our ability to compete for talent and reinforces Greystar as an employer of choice.
  • Represent USPM and work collaboratively with peers in Enterprise P&C to drive operational consistency across the business, while understanding and allowing for functional differences as appropriate.
  • Support the effective management of change across the business; leading strategies that drive high levels of commitment to achieving agreed outcomes.
  • Partner with leaders and the Total Rewards function on our compensation & benefits strategy.
  • Support an ongoing and measurable, long term focus on enhancing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, taking the lead on ensuring DE&I is at the heart of our processes and plans.
  • Support leaders in forecasting and planning their talent pipeline requirements in line with the function or business strategy.
  • Provide expert guidance regarding the interpretation of federal, state and local laws pertaining to HR. Assist in responding to EEOC and DOL charges and other related issues.
  • Develop and report on KPIs to enable the identification of trends and the continuous improvement of people management activities, including employee attraction, engagement, retention and performance.
  • Develop and implement internal programs, best practices and continuously strive to improve processes to ensure alignment with business objectives, strategies and internal/external trends.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the USPM business, including knowledge about the day-to-day operation of the properties and the role the USPM plays within Greystar, the composition and characteristics of its team members, and a solid grasp of the focus areas that define the USPM future vision and strategic direction.
  • Ensure regular communication with leaders to stay up to date on talent-related challenges, workforce needs, and operational strategies that impact USPM team members, and work with the appropriate talent experts to create innovative programs and response strategies.
  • Build strong relationships within USPM and across the broader P&C team.
  • Connect USPM leaders and team members to resources within the Enterprise P&C function as appropriate for additional help and support.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

  • Successful track record within senior talent management roles, including: building, leading, and managing HR teams that focused particularly on talent acquisition, talent development, organizational development, and organizational performance. 
  • Experienced leader and manager of people, with an eye for talent and the ability to evaluate and assess potential, and earn and maintain the trust of individuals of diverse backgrounds, job levels, and personalities.
  • Strong business acumen and a commercial approach, with ability to coach and influence key stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral & written skills.
  • Skilled at building trust and rapport with team members at all levels in order to engage in productive and candid communication.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage at both the tactical and strategic level.
  • Data driven decision maker.
  • Solid HR operations background, particularly in relation to compliance, employee relations, HR processes & employment legislation.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and respond effectively to changing priorities and demands in a fast paced environment.
  • Significant experience in managing change, including acquisitions and integrations.
  • Good working knowledge of financial concepts and terms and ability to create and manage a budget, and introduce innovative strategies for creating and driving efficiencies.
  • Proficient in resolving conflict and crafting win-win solutions, demonstrating persistence and adeptness in navigating complex interpersonal challenges. 
  • Exhibit a composed demeanor, capable of delivering objective and impartial feedback in a supportive manner.
  • Demonstrates personal leadership behaviors that foster and promote a positive work environment and stimulate team member high performance.
  • Collaborative with strong teamwork skills and demonstrates the ability to partner effectively with other functional leaders to align on opportunities and business needs, adopting a unified approach to implementing and executing shared projects and initiatives. 
  • Excellent skills in word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and data management applications, and comfortable with internet based applications and software and technologies.
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred in Business, Human Resources or related fields.
  • 12-15 years minimum of relevant experience, preferably working in the property management, hospitality or retail industry.

The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Compensation is based on geographic location and individual pay decisions will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

Corporate Positions: In addition to the base salary, may be eligible for an annual performance bonus that is based on individual and company performance.

Onsite Property Positions: In addition to the base salary, may be eligible for a discretionary weekly, monthly and/or quarterly bonus based on budget.
