The ED, P&C Pricing Actuary is responsible for developing product rate plans, overseeing the execution of customized rate action on multi-billion-dollar product line revenue, and delivering on the balance of financial and market goals. Directs Pricing’s prioritization of product line projects and initiatives, aligning with Enterprise vision and strategy. Delivers advancement of analytics within pricing methodologies, and in process synergies across P&C product lines.
There is a strong preference for this position to be based in the San Antonio, TX location. The following other locations will be considered: Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA, Tampa, FL or remote.
The Opportunity
- Oversees the planning and execution of product line pricing reviews, projects, and implementation of strategic initiatives and enhanced rating structures.
- Directs the development of the product’s financial indications - ensuring thorough analysis of loss and premium trend projections, loss development, expense allocations and projections - and needed profit margins to achieve sufficient return for the risk, and manages pricing decisions ensuring professional and legal compliance.
- Facilitates refined pricing business decision capabilities by incorporating new model tools and analysis techniques within the pricing review process, and by demanding the needed competitive price intelligence.
- Promotes and influences highly collaborative solutions to state pricing actions with Underwriting and Product Management executive alignment, and with Operational and member communications.
- Directs process improvement efforts and quality control in pricing procedures.
- Provides leadership through ongoing resource planning, career planning and development of rising leaders and high-performing teams, as well as communication of results to Officers and communication of vision to teams.
- Builds and oversees a team of actuarial professionals through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s Degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 10 years of progressive actuarial experience in the property and casualty insurance industry developing strategies, managing major initiatives, and delivering results within a complex matrix environment.
- 4 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
- Credentialed Casualty Actuary; FCAS.
- Experience in multivariate analysis and other complex modeling using statistical and predictive modeling techniques.
- Solid understanding of the financial metrics and key drivers for pricing results.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to successfully influence across teams.
- Experience managing multiple initiatives, working with ambiguity, and adapting to change.
What sets you apart:
- Experience in Specialty Lines products such as Umbrella, Landlord, Renters, Personal Articles Floaters, etc
- Proven experience leading multiple projects and meet tight deadlines with thoughtful planning and effective execution.
- Proven experience partnering with state product managers on pricing strategies.

Compensation:
USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $163,880.00-294,980.00.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
