Do you consider yourself a professional fan? FanSided.com is looking for a Sports Editor to become a part of our editorial team. As an editor at FanSided, you’ll provide wall-to-wall sports coverage, ensuring fans stay informed with timely news and insightful analysis. Your primary goal will be to write, edit and publish sports content with accuracy, speed and comfort, building the best fan community on the internet. You’ll be expected to meet high production numbers and traffic goals, and you’ll collaborate with contributors and staff writers to ensure informative, entertaining and timely content is delivered to readers daily.
What You'll Do:
- Write and/or edit 35+ articles per week with an emphasis on clean, engaging and interesting copy. You’ll cover a variety of major sports leagues and events to meet our coverage goals. This role requires timely turnarounds and high-volume output.
- Inform and entertain fans with well-researched and well-argued opinion articles.
- Write headlines, meta descriptions, social copy and more. Coordinate with editors on link integration.
- Work directly with site contributors and edit their content for publication.
- Monitor web traffic and real-time analytics to gauge story performance. Develop a creative, data-driven approach to ideation and story creation.
- Collaborate with fellow editors and team leaders to develop effective content strategies and optimize content for search engines, social influencers and other referral sources.
- Focus on audience development, growing users, sessions, page views, brand recognition and followers. This role requires a goal-oriented approach and prioritizes year-over-year improvements.
- Be a great teammate. Support your fellow editors, assume positive intent and approach your work with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

The expected salary range for this position is between $45,000 - $55,000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location. The benefits available for this position include flexible vacation policy, 15 paid holidays, paid parental leave, health insurance, 401(k) with company match.
Requirements
- You have 1-2 years of digital publishing experience, specifically in sports.
- You have a deep interest in and an understanding of the major sports leagues as well as a willingness to grow based on our coverage concerns. Additionally, you’re a passionate sports fan, and your fandom isn’t seasonal—it is year-round.
- You’re flexible. You know working in sports media means sometimes needing to work nights and weekends, whether it’s during football season or preparing for the NBA Draft.
- You have incredibly strong editing capabilities and creative writing skills.
- You’re agile. You can quickly brainstorm, produce and edit clean and interesting analyses on a variety of trending sports topics multiple times a day in a timely manner.
- You don’t create content that talks at fans, you create content that talks to them. You’re jumpstarting the conversation, and while you aren’t afraid to criticize the team, you do so fairly and accurately. You believe in the positive power of fandom and the positive experiences it brings to people’s lives and communities. You don’t feed the trolls.
- You have a basic knowledge of SEO.
- You’re a thorough leader. You don’t just pass along news; you push the conversation forward, explain what the news means and share your educated opinions and analysis.
- You’re social. You have experience engaging with fan communities on social media. You know how to make a topic relevant across multiple social platforms.
- You’re a multitasker. You can prioritize different objectives, utilizing both a content schedule and the flexibility to cover breaking news stories.
