The Full Stack Data Engineering (FSDE) Chapter Lead - Advanced Analytics sits in the Engineering Practice in the Advanced Analytics Team and is a specialist skill/people management career pathway at Endeavour. The Full Stack Data Engineer capability operates at the intersection of Data Engineering and Software Engineering with additional exposure to Machine Learning using the Databricks platform..

Endeavour operates an Agile, matrixed environment, with Practices/Chapters providing people management and capabilities, whilst Product squads deliver business missions. Chapter members are embedded in cross-functional Product delivery squads, bringing their specific skill to that squad to deliver on the Product initiatives. 

Your primary function is recruitment, line management, delivery squad allocation and capability uplift of the Full Stack Data Engineering capability at Endeavour. You are a capability expert and act as a servant leader for your chapter members. You will coach, mentor, support and upskill the chapter members to ensure that we have the capability necessary to deliver value through the delivery squads. You will drive the creation and maintenance of standards to ensure quality delivery of the capability across the organisation. You will work closely with Product Managers to recruit and allocate chapter members into delivery squads. 

This is a hands-on role whose primary responsibility is chapter and capability management, however depending on the size of the chapter and needs of the business, this role may also contribute to delivery, providing the capability within a cross-functional agile squad.

  • Recruitment, line management, delivery squad allocation and capability uplift of the Full Stack DE capability at Endeavour

  • Chapter member line management (including performance reviews), career pathway support and mentoring 

  • Actively coach, mentor, support & upskill Chapter Members to improve performance, reinforce continuous improvement and guide career progression

  • Ensure that chapter members are delivering value in their assigned squads/teams

  • Define the chapter capability and take ownership for establishing training, coaching etc to enable chapter members to upskill in the capability

  • Creation and governance of standards and appropriate tools to drive consistency and quality in the capability across Endeavour (in line with enterprise technology, data privacy and security standards)

  • Remove impediments from the chapter function

  • Recruit, onboard and offboard chapter members to Endeavour Group

  • Stay abreast of work allocated to squads to understand improvement possibilities and/or sharing between chapter members, and challenges facing chapter members, continuously facilitate the knowledge reuse, and improve efficiencies of the process

  • Setting objectives for the Chapter and reporting using defined standards

  • Reinforcing of Endeavour’s Agile & Scrum values and principles

  • Responsible for ensuring Chapter norms and standards are understood and followed by their members

  • Enable close cooperation across all Practices & Chapters in Endeavour

  • Participate when required Inception workshops, to enable decomposition and planning

  • Coach Chapter Members in the capability discipline to be empowered and self-organised

  • Assist Tribes & Squads when they require recruitment and/or growing of Chapter aligned capabilities

  • Facilitate discussion to resolve conflict within the Chapter

  • Thought leadership in the capability; Maintains connection with external industry developments for potential opportunities in capability development

Qualifications

Now let’s talk about you: 

  • 10+ years experience in data engineering and\or Software Engineering project delivery

  • 2+ years leadership capability with a proven track record leading high performance teams

  • Experience in Technology delivery, waterfall and agile

  • Experience with distributed programming (e.g. Apache Spark)

  • An in-depth understanding of common databases and data structures.

  • Back-end development skills, such as APIs

  • Experience working with big data cloud platforms (Azure, Google Cloud Platform, AWS)

  • Python, DBT, Airflow and SQL skills

  • Experience working in agile environment

  • DevOps and CI/CD

  • Google Cloud Platform experience (Composer, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, GCS, BigQuery, etc.)

  • Desired: Google Cloud Platform experience

  • Databricks experience

  • Experience working with retail offline (e.g. store sales) and online data sets (e.g. ecommerce)

  • Experience working with Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data

  • Experience working with unstructured data

  • Data science knowledge

  • Retail industry experience

  • Experience with Java and/or C#

  • Experience with Object-Oriented programming (OOP) 

  • Consulting experience

  • Experience with vendor management
