WHAT YOU'LL DO
As an Associate Packaging Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the research, development and implementation of sustainable packaging solutions for products within the organization. We are passionate about sustainability, creativity, and excellence in everything we do. We are currently seeking a motivated and talented Associate Packaging Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to our packaging development and improvement efforts.

Here, you’ll drive, leveraging your technical knowledge of packaging material and packaging process, to commercialize products across our co-pack network.

Location: Hybrid at our Preston, WA office 3+ days a week

Annual Bonus Potential: 7% - Eligibility is based on the company hitting annual financial targets.

Base Salary: $85,000 - $105,000

Note: New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

  • Assist in the design and development of innovative packaging solutions for new and existing products.

  • Create and update packaging specifications, drawings, and prototypes.

  • Collaborate with marketing, production, and quality teams to ensure packaging meets functional, aesthetic, and cost requirements.

  • Conduct packaging tests to evaluate performance, durability, and compability with products.

  • Analyze data and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Works with cross functional teams throughout product development, trials and implementation – execute with excellence packaging projects: choice of packaging and packaging materials, processing and performance throughout shelf-life, risk assessment and contingency plans.

  • Provides technical support to Commercial Operation teams with packaging concepts, feasibility analysis, cost containment, manufacturability, and supplier capability.

  • Develops and maintains packaging specifications, stress testing, performance, integrity, shelf life testing, ship testing for new and existing packaging materials, including in-house packaging testing program and lab.

  • Tests packaged product according to accepted industry specifications, rules, and requirements to validate cost effectiveness, shipping stability, and structural integrity

  • Brings innovative packaging concepts in-house and builds prototypes with vendor’s partnerships.

  • Researches into channel specific packaging like E-comm, C-store, club, etc.

  • Drive sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities to reduce packaging waste, optimize material usage, and increase recyclability or biodegradability of packaging materials.

  • Stay updated on packaging regulations and standards relevant to the beverage industry, ensuring that packaging designs and materials meet all regulatory requirements.

  • Track project progress, maintain documentation, and communicate updates to stakeholders.

  • Ensure food safety, quality, and SQF practices are always followed, notifying immediate manager of any food safety and/or quality issues.

  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 2+ years of packaging engineering experience, ideally in Consumer Packaged Goods. Beverage industry is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Technology or equivalent experience.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).

  • Great with PowerPoint, building professional, on-brand presentations.

  • Proficiency in using software tools for packaging design and analysis.

  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities for collaboration with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.

  • Passion for sustainability practices and trends in packaging is advantageous.

  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards in packaging and labeling.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule, occasionally working evenings and weekends for special assignments.

  • Ability to travel up to 40% occasionally working evenings and weekends as needed for special assignments.
