Senior Underwriter  - Casualty, Major Clients

(London/Home)

QBE are hiring for a Senior Underwriter to join our well-established and experienced UK Casualty team who focus on our major clients business. With a breadth of appetite, including multinational, in this role you will partner closely with broker and clients to underwrite across our growing portfolio in this market-facing role. We are underwriting led, empowering our underwriters to work autonomously – we are keen to speak with casualty professionals looking to make their next move!

Your role:

  • Perform complex underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
  • Support the development of the annual business plan for the portfolio and ensure delivery of the plan
  • Contribute and participate in all meetings, in order to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice
  • Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximize brand leverage
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency
  • Ensure the recording and measurement of insurance risks, including DUA’s where relevant, to ensure accuracy and good practice
  • Apply any reinsurance requirements to minimize risk and to deliver business plan objectives
  • Act as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities within area of expertise
  • Establish and strengthen strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximize influence and achieve business objective
  • Contribute and influence in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress toward business objectives
  • Contribute to the aggregate management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence
  • Motivate and develop the team by demonstrating good leadership behaviors and management best practice so as to support the achievement of business goal

About you:

  • Experience working within Casualty market on major client and/or equivalent business  
  • Solid understanding of wordings, relevant regulations and market trends
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and trust internally and externally.
  • Ability to analyse and use data for decision making with excellent negotiation skills
