Job Description
The duties and responsibilities of the role will include:
- Maintain and enhance the internal control environment by taking on the more challenging and large-scale assignments, conducting risk-based assessments of the systems and controls, reporting on the results, offering audit opinions when necessary, suggesting changes to the controls, and helping to prepare assurance statements as needed.
- As part of the aforementioned, make sure that all laws, council rules and policies, and good professional practices are followed.
- As required by the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS) April 2017, participate in the creation of audit professional standards. The Accounts and Audit (England) Regulations of 2015 require all major local councils and other pertinent entities to adhere to these requirements. Support the demands made by external auditors and other regulatory and inspection organisations.
The successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies:
- In order to be considered for an appointment, candidates must hold one of the following qualifications: professional in accountancy (CCAB, preferably CIPFA), professional in auditing (CIA), ICT auditing (QICA), or, in rare cases, a professional in another field.
- Candidates with an AAT and/or at the interim stages of a accountancy qualification will still be considered at a lower rate.
