Content Marketing Lead

Position Description

Mechanism is seeking a Content Marketing Lead to oversee Content efforts across multiple high-growth startups in our portfolio. As the Content Marketing Lead you will be responsible for the strategic direction, operations, and reporting of all Content initiatives, working closely with other team members to drive business growth. This role will sit under Mechanism's internal Growth team, and report to the Head of Organic Growth.

We are looking for a results-driven overachiever with a strong track record of driving growth through Content Marketing tactics. In addition to being a hands-on individual, you will be a proven leader who thinks strategically about the function of Content as AI continuously shifts the landscape. You will have a passion for truly great, user-first Content that drives results.

As the Content Marketing Lead, you will also lead the development and management of our Content creation. From workflows to personnel, you will be the guiding force for creating consistently great Content at Mechanism.

You will work closely with CEOs and other stakeholders to ensure that Content efforts are aligned with SEO goals and overall business objectives, and you will be responsible for delivering measurable results against key performance indicators (KPIs). Additionally, you will collaborate with the Partnerships and Linkbuilding functions to coordinate synergized strategies that drive search marketing success.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will build Mechanism's Content team and have full ownership of Content Marketing efforts for various portfolio companies, fully owning strategy, operations, and reporting. This includes driving the strategy, independently contributing to projects, and developing/up-leveling your team.
  • You will oversee Content development from inception to publication, including conducting keyword research to identify high-impact keywords, overseeing/building Content briefs, partnering with the product team to develop high-performing landing page templates, and optimizing performance post-publishing.
  • You will explore applications for AI and automation, implementing these to amplify your operational efficiency and drive innovative Content strategies.
  • You will act as the gatekeeper for all content that we publish across Mechanism portfolio companies, from blog posts to landing pages, ensuring that all content meets best practices.
  • You will partner with our linkbuilding team to create data-driven Content and build approaches to promote the Content.
  • You will partner with our SEO team to ensure our Content strategies and tactics are fueling organic growth.
  • You will monitor Content performance metrics, ensuring that we're driving business value (revenue/conversions) for our portfolio companies.
  • You will stay up-to-date on SEO/Content industry news and actively monitor and test around areas like algorithm changes, AI, etc. to inform strategies and drive progress.
  • You will monitor competitor Content Marketing efforts and analyze this information to evaluate the performance of your own brands against the market.
  • You will assist portfolio companies in hiring their own in-house content team members.

You will confidently educate portfolio company CEOs on Content Marketing and effectively communicate the reasoning behind your strategy recommendations and findings.

  • You should be comfortable making recommendations in ambiguous environments, with incomplete or unclear information. You should be open to evolving your thinking and recommendations as you collect more data.
  • You have the ability to seamlessly context-switch between portfolio companies in order to develop and execute Content strategies that meet each company's needs.

What You'll Bring

  • A degree in business, marketing, or a related field, with a strong analytical mindset and ability to think in systems.
  • 4+ years of strategic and operational Content Marketing experience, with a focus on Content-driven SEO.
  • Experience with Google Analytics & Search Console and SEO tools such as Ahrefs, SEMRush and Similarweb
  • Experience with popular CMS platforms, such as WebFlow, WordPress, Shopify and Contentful.
  • Experience in managing and developing high-performance Content teams, with a track record of building and coaching successful teams to achieve their goals. This includes setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and identifying opportunities for growth and development. You will also have experience in creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • A deep understanding of the importance of growth metrics that we generate from Content Marketing efforts.
  • An understanding that the ultimate goal of Content Marketing efforts is to generate revenue for the business, and being able to communicate business value from Content is crucial.
  • Exposure to growth marketing areas beyond Content, such as SEO, growth product, partnerships, and paid media. This will help you have a more holistic view of growth, enabling you to identify cross-channel opportunities and drive a comprehensive growth strategy.

We are fully remote – you can work wherever you're most productive. We are unable to provide Visa or work permit sponsorship at this time.

Our compensation packages are designed to make this your dream job for the short and long term. Each compensation package is tailored to suit your priorities and can include base, equity, and performance bonus based on the success of our portfolio companies. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and an unlimited time off policy with a two-week minimum.
