Your missions

Every company is a media company. Yes, you’ve likely heard that one before. But even a trope can hold some truth. Because every company needs to educate, demonstrate their competence, build trust – and the great ones also seek to inspire and entertain.

At Mercury, we’re building a media brand because

  • Being a reliable and competent source of relevant information builds trust with our audience — and trust is imperative in our business.
  • Serving up quality content our target audiences are looking for or within channels our audiences are already active in provides fuel for the organic growth that is already critical to our business.
  • Mercury isn’t just about banking, but exists to transform how the world operates. Content provides an authentic opportunity to inspire our audience to perform at their best.

We’re looking for a strategic and creative leader who is enthusiastic about ambitious storytelling and eager to demonstrate how being, in part, a media company can fuel Mercury’s growth.

Some things you’ll do in this role:

  • Build a media brand that is a favorite and frequent destination for startup founders and finance leaders to learn and get inspired.
  • Craft and execute a content strategy that aligns with our brand and content aspirations, and yields measurable results.
  • Oversee the development of content that spans the funnel – from initial ideation to tracking results of a published piece.
  • Spearhead experiments and campaigns that seek to bring our content to forums/channels our audience is already active in (including repurposing content for social and influencers).
  • Lead our annual print magazine project, shaping the editorial direction and driving the project from start to finish.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with freelance writers and edit their work.
  • Coach and develop a high performing content and social team.
  • Collaborate closely with in-house designers, SEO and distribution strategists, and data scientists.
  • Report on results and pivot/iterate accordingly.

The right person can come from a variety of backgrounds, but we think that these qualities would help:

  • You have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience including at least 2 years of people management.
  • You have experience in both journalism and corporate content marketing where you’ve successfully crafted and executed a content strategy for a brand.
  • You’re extremely data oriented and can translate content results into business impact.
  • You have a strong pulse on the tech and startup scene, with a curiosity for and natural ability to mine for stories that have yet to be widely covered.
  • You are passionate about ambitious and creative storytelling.
  • You are an extremely strong collaborator and communicator and can work easily and respectfully with cross-functional teams to achieve a desired outcome.
  • You are obsessed with the details and bring a careful eye for accuracy.
  • You can deliver clear, honest feedback that refines and improves content pieces.
  • If you’ve previously led a print magazine project, that’s an added bonus.

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.

Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.

Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:

  • US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $195,700 - $230,200
  • US employees outside of New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $176,100 - $207,200
