Your missions

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Compliance & Regulatory Attorney within our legal team to help support our corporate  business.  As a global-diversified manufacturing company, it’s sometimes hard to explain all the different things we do.  We like to say, “we’re the biggest company no one has ever heard of.”  We are confident you interact with one of our products in your daily life without knowing it.  Whether it’s the mattress you sleep on, the car you drive, the plane you fly on, or the furniture you sit on, our high-quality components are there supporting you.  If you join our team, your work will ensure people across the world have a little more comfort in their lives.

As a Compliance & Regulatory Attorney you will have the opportunity to work with other attorneys, executives, and employees at all levels. The team you will be working with is collaborative and team-oriented, and values how vital this role is to the success of the company. The position would be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, however, there is a strong preference for candidates within two to three hours' drive of the corporate headquarters in Carthage, MO.

So, what will you be doing as a Compliance & Regulatory Attorney?

  • Providing accurate, relevant, and timely legal advice and guidance to management and various business units on a wide range of legal topics, affecting the company’s legal and regulatory compliance, including, for example and without limitation, product regulatory compliance, sustainability, human rights, and/or other various ethics and compliance topics
  • Monitoring new and emerging developments globally in applicable laws and regulations, and identifying potential impacts that could affect the company and its business units
  • Liaising and communicating with regulators, auditors, lawyers, consultants, and other external parties on compliance matters, and representing the company in compliance-related inquiries, audits, inspections, and investigations
  • Performing regulatory research and analysis in response to compliance inquiries and preparing responses to customers concerning the company’s compliance with various laws and regulations
  • Identifying and assessing legal and regulatory compliance risks and opportunities facing the company, providing legal advice to ensure they are properly addressed, and implementing appropriate controls and mitigation measures
  • Assisting the company with understanding and complying with new and/or changing laws and regulations
  • Providing strategic counseling on, drafting, interpreting, and updating company policies, codes, and procedures
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various provisions and agreements
  • Leveraging knowledge gained from compliance reviews to continuously improve business processes and solutions.
  • Promoting compliance and regulatory best practices throughout the company
  • Providing training to the company on legal topics
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • 4-7 years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in-house at a large law firm or corporation
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  • Strong product regulatory or compliance background preferred
  • Active bar member in good standing
  • Proven experience as a legal counsel to business clients
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism, and the ability to uphold and promote the ethics and compliance culture and values of the organization
