POSITION’S PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the direction of the designated supervisor, the Senior Department Instructor (SDI) is responsible for leading and managing education projects characterized by considerable complexity. These projects typically involve high effort, multiple iterations, and various components. In addition to project leadership, the SDI is tasked with developing programs, workshops, and other educational initiatives to enhance the skills, knowledge, and performance of department Instructor personnel.   This role involves the development and maintenance of comprehensive curricula for various educational programs, with a particular focus on cross-educating and mentoring department instructors in Azure. Integral to this position is the creation and execution of a strategic plan to ensure the ongoing relevance and accuracy of Roadside Assistance (RSA) U-Haul University courses. This position will oversee the quality of the education index via Microsoft Lists and establish procedures to ensure it operates effectively and meets the department's educational objectives. The role involves overseeing the development and distribution of "The Roadside Breakdown" newsletter, a key initiative for continued education   Additionally, this role involves the formulation and maintenance of standardized continued education workshops tailored for the offseason. Active participation in the evaluation, enhancement, and maintenance of the onboarding and continued education process for department instructors is integral to the SDI's responsibilitiesContributing to the establishment of a mentorship program for existing department instructors is a key aspect of this role.  

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Note: Essential duties are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary). 

  • Reasonable and predictable attendance is essential.  
  • Manage educational projects with substantial effort, multiple iterations, or diverse components. 
  • Develop a comprehensive curriculum for cross-educating department instructors for classroom instruction and support. 
  • Evaluate, update, and maintain the onboarding and continued education process for department instructors. 
  • Develop a specialized curriculum for cross-educating department instructors in Azure. 
  • Establish and oversee a mentorship program for new and existing department instructors focusing on project management. 
  • Formulate a detailed plan for consistently updating RSA U-Haul University courses, including processes, timelines, and responsibilities. 
  • Create and implement a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the department newsletter. 
  • Lead project meetings related to the newsletter's development and continuous improvement. 
  • Analyze data to assess the newsletter's impact and provide regular reporting. 
  • Review existing project plans, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. 
  • Work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure the accuracy and relevance of educational content. 
  • Integrate innovative teaching methods, including shadowing sessions, assessments, and effective evaluation processes, to enhance the learning experience for department instructors. 
  • Develop and maintain standardized departmental continued education workshops. 

 

OTHER DUTIES PERFORMED OCCASIONALLY OR INFREQUENTLY:  

Fulfill the role of department instructor as necessary.  

Support with phone calls, online chats, or assume the role of manager on duty as needed. 

Collaborate with external educational institutions or industry experts. 

Participate in research and development to explore new educational methodologies, technologies, or tools that could enhance the overall effectiveness of education programming. 

Attend industry conferences, seminars, webinars, or events to stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in education or project management. 

  

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:   

 Associate or bachelor’s degree in Education, Training, Human Resources, related field, or the equivalent in experience is required 

 

EXPERIENCE:   

 3-5 years of proven experience in education and development, with a focus on adult learning principles and instructional design.
