Your missions

Hempel is seeking a dynamic Environmental Specialist with a background in environmental regulations, compliance, and operating permits.

Here's some of the things to look forward to:
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Assist in the planning, designing, implementing, and tracking sustainability and ESG programs (Scope 1, 2, and Scope 3 emissions, social, and governance aspects).
  • Direct experience in the preparation of SWPPPs, SPCC Plans, and other environmental compliance reports/applications
  • Monitor, interpret, summarize, and communicate environmental regulations and requirements, including any updates that may impact the use of substances in our products, to local management.
  • Prepare Tier II, TRI, Waste Summary, Pollution Prevention (P2), Air Permit Compliance Reports, emissions inventory, Annual Pesticide Establishment Report, and TSCA Chemical Data Reporting (CDR) data.
  • Maintain needed dialogues with regulatory authorities and other relevant bodies.
  • Implement environmental management systems such as work processes, standards, and procedures.
  • Maintain local Anti-Fouling product registration.
  • Assist with maintaining Safety Data Sheets, labels, test labels for R&D, and air quality data sheets for the regional market.
  • Handle and provide oversight for air, water, and waste permits.
  • Submit all regulatory reports accurately and on time.
  • Initiate and support MOC for environmental matters.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree is required, with preference given to those in Environmental Science or Chemical Engineering. A Master of Science is advantageous.
  • Expertise and in-depth knowledge of EPA or relevant state regulations, including but not limited to RCRA, CERCLA, NPDES, Title V, EPA CAA, NSPS, TSCA, and FIFRA.
  • Proficient computer skills and a solid understanding in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook as well as work with third party environmental management software systems.
  • Experience in air and water quality management, spill prevention and response, and hazardous waste compliance, preferably within refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing sectors, is preferred.
  • Experience in a similar role or within the Paint, Chemical, Oil & Gas, or related industries is a plus.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
