Description:

The program director plays a critical role in managing the operational aspects of both the Emory Center for Infectious Disease Modeling & Analytics and Training Hub (CIDMATH) and the other ID EPI research activities. CIDMATH, a $17.5 million CDC-funded center, focuses on developing innovative infectious disease models and providing state-of-the-art training for infectious disease modelers. The Lopman, McQuade and Nelson Labs and allied faculty specialize in vaccine epidemiology research for enteric and respiratory pathogens, with domestic and global activities. The successful candidate will oversee complex public health grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts, ensuring efficient operation and project success. The position holder will be responsible for a successful administration of the research operations.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the strategic planning, development and implementation of a large and complex program or of several smaller programs.
  • Plans, administers and monitors program budgets. Develops short and long term goals and objectives.
  • Oversees related special projects.
  • May represent the program in various national and international settings.
  • May manage the solicitation of funding from foundation, corporate, individual and governmental donors.
  • Collaborates with and seeks the support of representatives from other organizations.
  • Establishes and administers policies and procedures.
  • Supervises staff.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

 

Relationship Management:
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external collaborators.
  • Foster effective partnerships and seamless communication to drive project success.
Financial Management:
  • Develop, administer, and monitor CIDMATH and project budgets.
  • Perform regular financial analyses, budget reconciliations, and financial forecasting.
  • Communicate with sub-contract partners to facilitate international invoicing and advances as needed.
Contract and Grant Management:
  • Prepare, negotiate, and monitor independent contractor agreements.
  • Facilitate and monitor sub-awards in collaboration with Research Administrative Services and the Office of Sponsored Programs.
  • Manage grant application and proposal submissions in collaboration with Research Administrative Services and the Office of Sponsored Programs.
  • Interface with federal, nonprofit, and industry sponsors regarding grant progress and financial expenditures.
  • Lead grant-related procurement, acquisitions, and international shipping to research sites.
  • Oversee the annual Federal Financial Report (FFR) and NIH Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) process.
  • Perform pre- and post-award functions as part of Rollins Office of Administration and Research (ROAR).
Personnel Management:
  • Work closely with Human Resources to recruit and select applicants for full-time positions.
  • Oversee hiring and onboarding process for students.
Issues Management:
  • Identify and address potential issues that may impact project success or operations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and resolve conflicts.
  • Ensure compliance with university and sponsor policies and regulations.
Team Leadership:
  • Manage and provide mentorship to junior staff members.
  • Foster professional growth and a cohesive, high-performing team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to program work and seven years of related experience which includes two years at a management level, OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience in managing complex public health grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget development, financial analysis, and forecasting.
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a diverse team.
  • Experience in grant application and proposal submission processes.
  • Knowledge of federal, nonprofit, and industry grant requirements and reporting processes.
  • At least two years working in an office of administration and research, such as Rollins Office of Administration and Research (ROAR)
  • Experience managing projects in infectious disease modeling and vaccine epidemiology.
  • Previous leadership role in a university or research center environment.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
