Kalepa is an award-winning software start-up re-imagining the trillion-dollar commercial insurance industry. Our cross-functional teams leverage AI, cutting-edge tech, and tons of data to help commercial insurance underwriters Bind with Confidence.
Why We're Here:
For hundreds of years. businesses have tried to find the right policy to protect themselves and their employees. However, commercial insurance is plagued with a big problem: it's really complicated!
Insurers find it hard to understand the true exposures of businesses and to profitably provide them with policies that reflect that risk. Businesses - like contractors, hotels, restaurants, transportation fleets, real estate lessors, and others - struggle to find the coverage they need and are often left underinsured, uninsured, or paying too much for what they need.
That's where we come in. Our AI-powered underwriting workbench - Copilot - compiles everything underwriters need, and flags the exposures they need to know about. With Copilot, underwriters can find critical information in a flash; digitize their underwriting guidelines; triage, prioritize, and track their book; and automatically read and summarize key documents, like loss runs and supplemental applications – all out of the box. This means that insurance carriers grow faster and are more profitable, and businesses get the right coverage at the right rates. It’s the way insurance should work.
What We’re Looking For:
Kalepa is looking for an exceptional Lead Designer with 5+ years of experience to take our marquee AI-powered Underwriting Copilot to the next level. We are a remote-friendly, fast-growing, and highly capital efficient startup that is building software to transform and disrupt commercial insurance and that already powers critical and daily underwriting decisions at companies such as Nationwide, Arch Insurance, Munich Re, and Bowhead Specialty. Kalepa is headquartered in New York City.
We believe that strong design and empathy are foundational to reimagining commercial insurance and critical in building AI-centric products. Underwriters have a difficult mandate: balancing speed-to-quote and strong customer relationships with accurate and thorough analysis of risks. Legacy software in the industry has lacked customer focus, usability, and, ultimately, true value creation. This is, unfortunately, also true of most emerging AI platforms which provide point solutions for problems and do not address the complexity necessary to truly help underwriters have a delightful experience while leading the insurers that employ them to deliver outstanding growth and profitability.
Kalepa’s Copilot is the only solution in the market that delivers real, tangible, and measurable value from AI in commercial insurance. Our clients experience increases of 30-100% in premium (revenue) growth and improvements of up to 10% in profitability – within weeks of using Copilot. This is the result of an unwavering focus on delivering the best product in the market – one designed to meet all the underwriters’ needs and which drives real business KPIs.
Kalepa’s Lead Designer will have a broad remit across UX design, UX research, and product management to drive this vision forward and position underwriters to be far more impactful in their work. This is a hands-on position tasked with helping take our already successful Copilot product – used to underwrite billions of dollars of policies a year -- to the next level.
