Job Title: Director of Payroll and Billing

What will I do:

The Director of Payroll and Billing will be responsible for all aspects of payroll services with specific responsibility for providing information to associates and managers regarding policies and regulations; addressing a variety of issues and/or providing general support; maintaining records, files, and databases; and assisting in ensuring that external personnel payroll functions conform to all applicable regulatory requirements. This role is player-coach role and requires the ability to process Internal payroll and lead external payroll teams.

Day in the Life:

  • Supervising payroll teams that process the weekly payroll for the external associates working in multiple states.

  • Overseeing daily operations for the Payroll Department.

  • Preparing bi-weekly operations for the Payroll Department.

  • Providing assistance and serving as backup for additional weekly external payrolls.

  • Assist with processing external payroll as needed.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Company associates, departments, and management.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective business relations with vendors, outside auditors and regulators, and professional trade groups.

  • Effectively assisting in the development of Payroll and Billing associates, ensuring optimal performance.

  • Updating payroll policies and procedures documents.

  • Ensuring compliance with state and local payroll tax requirements.

  • Registering new jurisdictions, verifying filings, and resolving all issues.

  • Reviewing annual W-2 preparation, as well as quarterly and annual payroll tax return filings. Working with external payroll company as needed.

Who Am I:

  • Multi-state payroll experience. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field. Member of APA preferred.               

  • Three or more years of high-level payroll experience.

  • ADP experience strongly preferred.

  • Workday experience preferred.  

  • Excellent leadership skill.

  • Able to organize, coordinate, and direct projects.

  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.

  • Solid analytical and technical skills.

  • Able to use all related hardware and software.

  • Understanding of governmental regulations and reporting requirements. Knowledge of Payroll Tax Filings.

My team: 

  • This position is part of the Finance Department and works closely with hiring managers across the organization. This position will have supervisory responsibilities of 13 associates.
