Job Description:

Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Sr. Manager, Dev Ops to become a part of our outstanding team.  Engineering teams in the Technology organization are responsible for developing/maintaining/delivering to market the software solutions of Applied Systems UK. These include all UK agency management platforms, connectivity solutions and associated tools.

DevOps engineers are embedded within the development teams which develop, maintain, and support applications servicing insurance agencies, insurer partners, and other 3rd party partnerships. This role includes responsibilities for developing the systems and processes to accelerate deployment speed and quality, supporting the engineering teams to leverage the CI/CD framework we own, as well as mentoring the DevOps engineers. They must be able to work in a collaborative environment, bringing the latest automation and deployment practices.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Driving towards continuous delivery, for example making deployments faster, repeatable and most importantly, routine
  • Collaborate with global DevOps teams to ensure consistency across the Applied ecosystem
  • Collaborate with UK engineering management to support high level engineering goals, championing modern DevOps practices
  • Line management of DevOps engineers
  • Coaching and mentoring of DevOps and engineering teams on best DevOps practices
  • Contributing to the development of tools and framework to improve the deployment pipeline
  • Owning the deployment and configuration processes for environments
  • Management the release process to ensure our delivered products meet or exceed customer expectations when deployed
  • Project managing internal projects e.g. upgrading tools, consolidating source control and platform migrations
  • Work within a Scrum Team(s) to ensure that new products, services or components are delivered to the appropriate levels of quality within the agreed sprint cycles
  • Actively participate in workshops, including sprint planning and retrospectives
  • Ensure that the appropriate Agile metrics and artefacts are produced and communicated to enable the team and product owner to make informed decisions
  • A flexible approach to working hours may be required along with on-call responsibility

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Can work remotely or from an Applied Systems Office

Your experience should include some or all of the following:

  • At least 8 years’ experience in a DevOps role, with at least 3 years at a management level

Technical / Functional Skills:

  • Experience with large scale software deployment processes
  • Experience with team based collaborative development processes and driving the team to successful implementation
  • Mentoring and coaching skills
  • Strong scripting skills, i.e., Powershell, Python, Bash, etc
  • Management of modern CI/CD systems like GitLab, Helm, Octopus
  • Production usage of Kubernetes
  • Experience with public cloud providers, preferably GCP


Additionally you might have;

  • Experience with Terraform CDK and TypeScipt
  • Experience with Hashicorp Vault
  • Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog or SumoLogic

Experience with MS Windows/IIS hosted applications
