About the Role
Opentrons liquid handling robots are deployed in a wide variety of labs, from synthetic biology to clinical testing, and our product lineup continues to grow. The Content Developer position is part of Opentrons’ Technical Content team and will work closely with our Opentrons for Education initiative.
Technical Content at Opentrons publishes and maintains the materials that inform users what our hardware and software products do, and how to use them. And Opentrons for Education works to incorporate Opentrons robots into academic courses, with the goal of making automation a universal skill.
This is where you come in: delivering high-quality documentation to existing Opentrons users and crafting curricula to train the next generation of automation-savvy lab scientists.
What You Will Do
You can expect to:
● Work within the Technical Content team and collaborate cross-functionally with other teams throughout the organization.
● Help grow the Opentrons community by developing course curricula and tailoring existing content to meet educators’ and students’ needs.
● Contribute to the Technical Content team by reviewing, proofreading, and providing feedback on other Technical Content publications.
What We Are Looking For
Basic Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
● You have at least 2 years of experience writing technical documentation, educational materials, or customer support content.
● You love talking about science and technology and can work collaboratively with education, support, and engineering teams.
● You have a proven record of tracking down and verifying information from subject matter experts to deliver content on tight deadlines.
● You have the ability to go the extra mile to take writing projects from concept to draft to publication.
Preferred Qualifications:
● You have experience in robotics, automated liquid handling, lab biology, or science education.
● You’ve managed and edited a large collection of documents in a content management system.
● You’ve collaborated with teams in Jira or a similar ticketing system.
● You’ve managed written content on GitHub or worked with open-source software.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
● Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
● Limited physical effort required
Compensation Range: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $75,000 and $90,000 per year; base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience. We typically target mid-range for well-qualified candidates. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity and full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.
