Ciena is looking for a talented and experienced creative copywriter to join our global brand and editorial team. This individual will play a critical role reinforcing the company’s brand identity by crafting engaging, persuasive, and memorable promotional copy to captivate different audiences and help the company stand out.

Reporting to the Brand and Communications Director, you’ll be a creative thinker and exceptional writer capable of developing clear, concise, and compelling content that captures the brand’s essence while achieving the aims of cross-functional marketing disciplines including experience, digital, field, product, and design. You’ll use storytelling techniques to build powerful narratives that connect with stakeholders while fostering strategic reputation management.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Understand the company’s evolving brand strategy and platform, market positioning, brand research, and business objectives
  • Uncover opportunities to infuse the brand and position the company as a supplier of choice to strengthen market performance; redirect misaligned material
  • Lead the creation of event-focused copy including booth graphics, email, and advertising’
  • Work closely with the event and design teams to interpret messaging placement for booth elevation renderings
  • Provide additional copywriting support for web, email, webinars, collateral, and video as needed
  • Interpret creative briefs and technical information to understand project expectations
  • Translate highly technical product-focused value propositions into high-level brand messages using storytelling techniques with minimal editing support
  • Write in brand voice and implement a consistent narrative across assets for cohesion
  • Contribute to in-house creative campaign theme development and team meetings to help amplify and reinforce a consistent and cohesive brand expression across touchpoints
  • Forge strong relationships, earn stakeholder trust, and lead copywriting initiatives at proper intervals of a project to make a meaningful contribution to strategic marketing imperatives  

Required skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Marketing, Advertising, or Journalism
  • Strong grasp of advertising, marketing, and branding principles with 10+ years of professional copywriting experience, preferably with a business-to-business focus
  • Ability to translate highly technical valuable propositions into compelling storytelling narratives that meaningfully connect with different audiences
  • Creative, strategic, and detail-oriented writer with the ability to adapt tone and language
  • Outstanding relationship management skills with the ability to drive consensus among global cross-functional marketing teams, including senior leadership
  • Ability to execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced organization with tight deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Compensation and Benefits 


The annual pay range for this position is $89, 000 - $143, 500 USD.
The annual pay range for this position in California is $99, 700 - $159, 300 USD.


Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
