Association of British Insurers

London, England

When meeting us, you’ll quickly discover that the best thing about the Association of British Insurers is the people. We’re hugely proud that 98% of our people think individual differences are respected and we are empowered to bring our whole self to work without fear of judgment. If that sounds like your sort of culture, read on to find out how you can join us.

Right now, we’re looking for a motivated, customer-focused individual to support the IT Manager in delivering high-quality, first-line desktop IT support to ABI colleagues based in the London office, and remotely to colleagues in the Edinburgh office. This will include dealing with support calls via phone and email, new starter setup and induction, and general IT administration.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a keen interest in IT systems, who is eager to learn and develop their skills within a busy yet supportive office environment.

What’s the job?

Initially based full-time in our London office during training, and subsequently working on a hybrid basis (40% of time in the London office), the individual will work on the following areas:

  • Provide 1st line, and occasional 2nd line, IT support for colleagues to resolve basic software and hardware issues, increasing the complexity of issues over time.
  • Provide support to colleagues with using Microsoft applications such as Outlook and SharePoint.
  • Provide IT setup, induction and basic training for new colleagues.
  • Raise incidents, service requests, changes and problems with IT equipment, gathering appropriate details to aid in troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues and service requests in a timely manner.
  • Install approved software, and provide basic application support and user training.
  • Manage the ordering, distribution and maintenance of office desktops, laptops, peripherals and mobile devices, liaising with third-party suppliers as necessary.
  • Manage the inventory of hardware and monitor stock levels.
  • Arrange safe disposal / recycling of old equipment, following WEEE regulations.
  • Support the IT team with the delivery of the IT roadmap and various related projects.
  • Communicate to office colleagues regarding outages, updates and other important IT-related information.
  • Promote the aims and objectives of the ABI and help secure the outcomes and deliverables set out in the ABI Business Plan.
  • Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by the ABI.

What Experience, Skills and Knowledge are we looking for?

Experience

  • Experience of, or keen interest in, assisting colleagues in the use of their IT desktop applications.
  • Some experience in managing the ordering, distribution and stock-control of IT hardware and software (desirable)
  • Maintenance of computer peripherals such as printers
  • Experience in a customer-care role where empathy and a friendly disposition are paramount.

Skills

  • Ability to configure PCs, laptops and mobile devices to required specifications.
  • Ability to identify and resolve IT-related problems and incidents at 1st/2nd level
  • Excellent 1st line support / client care skills, empathic approach to provision of support and training.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new systems and applications, such as Azure.
  • Effective problem-solving, organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to flex working style to plan and prioritise work appropriately.
  • Confident verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization and manage expectations effectively.
  • Proactive and helpful team member who builds trusted relationships with colleagues and relevant third parties.
  • Good attention to detail and quality, with a professional attitude and a commitment to providing high levels of customer service and satisfaction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and to contribute to the wider work of the ABI.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of server equipment and maintenance (desirable)
  • Understanding of the importance of data privacy and confidentiality.
  • Maintenance and upgrading of computer systems, and able to recommend suitable upgrades where needed.

We encourage you to apply, even if you don’t have all the skills above right now.

Throughout the interview and assessment process, we will be looking for you to demonstrate our values; We are Brave; We take Ownership; We are Appreciative; We are Human and We are Curious.

We welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds and we run our application process a bit differently – we don’t assess based on your CV. We are proud to be a Disability Confident employer and are committed to making adjustments to help you perform at your best in our recruitment process.
