Your missions

Our healthcare system is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S. Every year, over 50 million Americans suffer adverse financial consequences as a result of seeking care, from lower credit scores to garnished wages. The challenge is only getting worse, as high deductible health plans are the fastest growing plan design in the U.S.

Cedar’s mission is to leverage data science, smart product design and personalization to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. Today, healthcare providers still engage with its consumers in a “one-size-fits-all” approach; and Cedar is excited to leverage consumer best practices to deliver a superior experience.

The Role:

Cedar is making major improvements to the patient financial experience. We hope to eliminate the burden of billing for patients and providers by delivering a comprehensive, personalized, and connected financial experience.

As part of our vision to create a smoother patient billing experience, we are in need of a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our Design System squad. Our team builds new components for cross-team use, tackles the most challenging frontend issues across Cedar and evangelizes best practices with other product engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of high-impact, frontend-focused product features across multiple squads
  • Author flexible UI components that will be utilized in the Cedar product ecosystem
  • Lead frontend modernization efforts in a hands-on way for products used by millions of patients
  • Mentor team members at all levels and uplevel their frontend expertise through trainings, documentation, PR reviews & 1:1 mentorship
  • Ensure we are building for long term maintainability, particularly with respect to accessibility compliance
  • Work autonomously and creatively in navigating and overcoming obstacles that you encounter
  • Support your counterparts on the product & design teams on understanding and solving patient problems, playing a key role in the product development process.
  • Develop, review, and maintain efficient and reliable code.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 8+ years building web front-ends using technologies like React / TypeScript / Next.js etc
  • Mastery of front-end development languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as design tools like Figma, with strong attention to detail
  • Experience working with design systems - you’ve authored and maintained UI components that are accessible, performant, scalable, and robust
  • Experience with accessibility guidelines such as WCAG
  • Experience with frontend technologies such as Webpack / Yarn / Sass etc
  • Comfortable working autonomously with product designers, product managers, and engineers to create delightful user-facing experiences
  • Some experience with Python or another backend programming language - you should be comfortable understanding a back-end code base and making changes

Compensation Range and Benefits:

  • Salary/Hourly Rate Range*: $195,500 - $230,000
  • This role is equity eligible
  • This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package

About us

Cedar was co-founded by Florian Otto and Arel Lidow in 2016 after a negative medical billing experience inspired them to help improve our healthcare system. With a commitment to solving billing and patient experience issues, Cedar has become a leading healthcare technology company fueled by remarkable growth. Over the past several years, we’ve raised more than $350 million in funding from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz and Tiger Global, bringing Cedar’s valuation to $3.2 billion.

Cedar’s ambition is to serve 50-60 million Americans by 2025, about half of the U.S. population that makes medical payments annually.
