The Department

The Linux Administration Team is part of a wider IT Operations team that provides a variety of IT services to the Autovista Group business, including desktop support, storage, networking, server virtualisation, monitoring, Windows and Linux operating systems, databases, applications, and development.

The Role

The role is specifically responsible for the creation, management and support of Autovista Group’s Linux Servers, comprising CentOS, Suse, Red Hat and Cloud hosted servers, across various environments including Development, Test and Live. The Linux Team works closely with the Database, Windows, Network and Infrastructure Teams, to ensure that the environments are performing to expectation. The team supports the Level 2/3 support teams and the Applications Developers. A key role is to support project initiatives, application design and establish Operating standards.

The Candidate

The role is a hands-on Linux Administrator role, with a primary focus on managing and supporting the Linux servers and applications across the Autovista Group. Linux administration includes capacity planning, installation, configuration, migration, performance monitoring and tuning, security, troubleshooting, as well as how the data is stored, ensuring data backup and data recovery routines are effective. The role requires someone who is enthusiastic, has expert knowledge in Linux CentOS, Suse and Red Hat and ideally other cloud technologies such as AWS (EC2).

A can do attitude is required to be able to look at the current environment and plan how to move it forward, bringing in appropriate technologies as required – clustering etc. to ensure the supportability and manageability of the environment.
