As an R&D Manager, you will play a pivotal role in crafting the future of our industry-leading products and solutions, making a lasting impact on our customers and the world.

In this role you get to lead and encourage a complementary team of researchers, scientists, and technicians, encouraging a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. As such, you will develop and implement the R&D strategy aligned with business objectives, driving advancements in coatings technology.

As manager you will be responsible for the end-to-end innovation process, from play-test and conceptualization to product development and commercialization while Fostering a dynamic environment that encourages creativity, experimentation, and breakthrough thinking.

Some of the essential responsibilities in the role will include:

• Creating Customer Value: Build balanced solutions which bring value for our customers and Hempel
• Crafting a successful team: Drive collaboration, priority setting and commitment in execution, Coaching, supporting and developing the team member
• Project Management: Plan, coordinate, and supervise research projects, ensuring efficient resource allocation, timelines, and results. Drive cross-functional collaboration with other departments, ensuring flawless integration between R&D and commercial teams.
Close alignment with Product Management, Solution Management to agree on results, timelines, priorities, etc.
 Technical Expertise: Stay at the forefront of coatings technology advancements, supervising industry trends, and evaluating emerging materials and methodologies. Apply your deep technical knowledge to guide and mentor the R&D team in solving sophisticated challenges.
Run initiatives to evaluate and improve the interaction with the rest of the BTE teams.
Review and sign off the fit for purpose of all E&I NSs together with the relevant SME
• Collaboration and Partnerships: Build strategic partnerships with external research institutions, universities, and industry experts to maximize their expertise, enhance knowledge sharing, and drive collaborative innovation initiatives.
• Quality and Compliance: Ensure adherence to quality standards, regulatory requirements, and health and safety guidelines throughout the R&D process. Implement robust testing and validation protocols to maintain the highest level of product performance and reliability.
Reevaluate test protocols on a yearly basis together with the relevant SMEs, improve them and align them
• Budget and Resource Management: Develop and lead the R&D budget, optimizing resource allocation to increase research output and achieve business objectives. Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality or innovation.
 

Required education, experience and job-related skills:

A Bachelor’s, Master's or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

Further, we imagine you to have minimum 5 years of experience in research and development of chemical based products, along with a proven track record of successful project leadership and innovation management.

As we are building a new team, we also look for someone with experience in leading and developing impactful R&D teams.
